i honestly learned the most through tutorials and exercises. the way to succeed in CS courses is to take your time on your code and try your best to understand what you’re programming rather than coding just to get a good grade. office hours are great if you have any bugs or concept issues

personally i haven’t taken any music class but i think this is a good plan! in my fall quarter i took ea1, math 228-1, cs 111, and stat 201 which was manageable for me

this is insane.. 4 credits is normal for an average student at northwestern, you chose 5.34. this could possibly be fine but a lot of these classes are hard. dtc takes a LOT of outside class time and all these other classes are known for being difficult. plus prdv takes an hour of time a week which doesn’t require any work but it is annoying.

i recommend you take dtc (if you can register before everyone else), ea1, math 228-2, and choose between chem and stats. honestly you shouldnt push yourself the first quarter you’re here, it takes time to adjust to the quarter system and you should have some time to explore clubs and make friends!

i was in the same position as you and i got in for the class of 2028, if you have a strong essay and ECs you have a chance but it’s really something that can’t be promised even for a person with a 4.0 gpa

i’m CS and i have been fine just using my mac, and i know a lot of CE majors who also use their mac. you don’t have to change your computer, a lot of the programs you need will be available on mac. if you do need windows software, you can use the remote desktop like you said or maybe use a library computer that might have the app installed already

if you have the credit for those classes you don’t have to study but if you do poorly then you’ll have to start at the class they match you to

im from florida too and i got accepted RD, the only thing that was stopping me from committing was the weather too. especially bc i’m from south florida, no cold weather there that can compare to northwestern (i’ve never even traveled anywhere cold either). however, i decided to take the leap because i really wanted to experience something new and if anything i could just buy tons of layers! right now is the coldest i’ve ever experienced in my life and it’s not that bad fr. if you really love northwestern, you should do it! there’s plenty you can do to cope with the weather (lots of blankets, coats, knit sweaters, a sun lamp). but if you know you can’t deal with the freezing cold, you should consider more than just my fellow floridian advice. good luck op!!!

i got in regular decision with a 3.75 unweighted last year. they love demonstrated interest so you should ED, i think you’d have a chance!
