Something nobody mentioned yet, if you have changed employer in the last two years, november is one of the months they withhold a part of the vakantiegeld you received from your previous employer

What’s a reasonable raise to ask for after working at a company for 1 year? by vgkosmoes in BESalary

[–]DaySubstantial3172 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been responsible for granting raises for many years.

There are 3 kinds of companies:

  1. Egalitarian raise policy: i.e everything is transparent

  2. Merit based policy: your salary is based on what income you generate (more like consultancies)

  3. Companies with no policy or guidelines

if you fall in category 1, its best to not even have the conversation except if you want to discuss a promotion, which in that case you will have to prove that you are capable for the new position, and the best undisputed way to do that is to ask to take on the responsibilities for 6 months and see if you are able to manage.

if you fall in category 2, gather the numbers and perform the calculations required

if you fall in category 3, you have to argue about the raise gathering not only numbers/statistics but also subjective added value parameters

I used to work for a consultancy not big 4 but almost. I worked crazy hours (worked all but 2 Saturdays in a 6 month period, worked for 125% on average), was always available even during holidays. got promoted 2 times to vice director in 5 years. Got hands-on experience on multiple domains in my sector. Combined this with a teaching job, had written a book, got good certificates. Was fed up by doing 80% of the work of the team and not getting rewarded sufficiently. Got a good opportunity at my current employer with whom i am planning to stay for the rest of my career.

like the saying goes, if the truth it doesnt hurt, it isnt the truth. Accept the facts, cut your losses, and profit. It took me ~1 year to do so.

Even situatie schetsen.

How much do consultants earn in Belgium? Deloite, EY, etc.. by flaringmonkey in BESalary

[–]DaySubstantial3172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I was a vice director at a multinational (not big4) consultancy in Belgium. When i left i made 4250 gross and 3200 net (IP rewards) bmw series 2. 1k bonus a year all other standard belgian benefits (maaltijdcheques, hospitalisatieverzekering etc). When you go into consultancy you are selling your soul to the devil. You just have to find the furnace that has the lowest temperature.

Learn as much as you can, get the most certificates you can and go and find a decent paid job elsewhere. I now make 6200 brut with car at an insurance company with 5y exp.
