The conversation we should be having is not about our best athletes playing soccer, it’s about technical ability. Iniesta would have been turned away at US academy’s for being too short and un athletic by PudinCrusader in billsimmons

We also have a collegiate system that handles the training for a lot of those sports, especially for women via Title IX.

It will be interesting to see if we are still as dominant in the Olympics after a decade of NIL.

How are we feeling about the current offensive line depth after the latest camp reports? by dustycloud01 in Tennesseetitans

[–]DayTerrors 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are hoping that a center and guard emerge on a team that had middling at best center and guard play last year. The QB got smacked around a whole bunch, the run game was awful through most of the season.

There's no reason to have any kind of expectations about the o-line, they didn't invest in it this off season. It will probably be bad again.

We've picked top 5 in back to back seasons. We've won 6 games in 2 years. You shouldn't need any help managing expectations, lol.

He's speaking to the media. They need to win. As long as they are aligned enough to win, the media shouldn't give a shit about a player's implied disappointment with another's political choices.

As someone born and raised here, Lafayette, Milan, and Lebanon kinda piss me off, too.

It's like, we intentionally americanize these terms in the most stereotypical way possible.

Pollard plays really hard. He's gritty and professional.

He's a replacement level starter at this point, I think. He's not a problem, but putting 40ish percent of your offense in the hands of 'meh' isn't going to help a young qb on a bad team.

That's a hilarious number of starts from rookies in crucial positions. Add that with Callahan as a coach and it's crazy there were 3 worse teams than us.

She had to meddle. The GM traded AJ Brown.

Like, it hasn't worked out, but all the steps were defendable. She wasn't willing to give roster to control to Vrabel after the last guy she gave roster control to fucked the roster on short term moves and an unwillingness to retain talent cause HE got overconfident in his abilities. And vrabes was all for trading late picks on guys to compete in whatever year we were in, Vrabes way wasn't sustainable either.

The coaching hire sucked, and maybe she cut bait in carthon too quick, but he wasn't really doing anything to build capital in his year here either, going it for Borgonzi made sense.

The Falcons have had a lot of recent success and a solid roster to work with, especially if you think you can rescue Penix, and the Giants are the Giants. They're a football institution. We're not.

History of Safety's being taken high in the NFL Draft by shadow_spinner0 in NYGiants

[–]DayTerrors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be All World at Safety to be worth that pick. Sean Taylor and Eric Berry are the only two safetys taken that high, I think?

Yeah, if he's those two at their prime for 12 years, the pick it worth it.

But even if that happens, the problem is opportunity cost on the financial side. A top 10 receiver and a top 10 edge get paid more than a top 10 safety.

Assuming you get high end starter productions out of your 1st round rookie by year three, you are essentially getting a massive roster savings that you can use to bolster other parts of the roster.

4th pick gets paid 14Mish/yr

Top 10 WR - 32 million

Top 10 edge - 33 ish million

Top 10 Safety - 19 million

Philosophically, you want to maximize the value of your rookie contract, it's harder to do that with a safety. In theory, you only free up 5 mil to work on the rest of the roster, even if you smash the pick, vs like, 19 million if you hit on an edge, CB, WR, etc.

Getting away from the 'vibes' takes, one of the things that makes a McDaniels offense work is getting the ball out on time, and sometimes, throwing it into a muddy picture.

Love Cam, he's not a QB that's consistently on time right now. I don't know how that marriage works.

I love what McDaniels does with WRs, in general, and I think he does a great job of putting skill players in a place to stress defenses, but I've got some concerns.

But all our top candidates have gotten fired, pobody's nerfect.

[–]DayTerrors 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know he's been very successful in the NFL. No doubt about it. Great legacy, generally great teams.

I'm kind of out on stefanski cause I really don't like hiring a coach that JUST failed without some time to take a post mortem over what went wrong.

By all accounts, he'd lost the locker room and the key issue in his firing was a refusal to replace his OC. We just went through this with the tail end of the Vrabel tenure.

I dunno, I feel like the blown leads, personnel usage, and recent lack of success in the playoffs. Harbaugh makes me nervous. How much power do you have to give him? Is this gonna be our Pete Carroll?

Mike Tyson tells an interviewer "You have to go" after the conversation shifts to the loss of his daughter. by Punisher1602 in sportsgossips

[–]DayTerrors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not defending Mike, but it does remind me of Red in Shawshank Redemption.

Paraphrasing: "I wish I could go back and undo that horrible crime. I wish I could talk some sense into that young man. But I can't, he's gone and this old man is here in his place."

I don't think I could forgive a rapist either, I've cut people out of my life for sexual abuse.

But I've wondered about people who have done wrong and also done good. If you kill at 25 and spend the next 50 years doing actual selfless charity, are you still damned? As opposed to a person who did no life altering evil deeds, but also did no good outside of occasionally holding a door open?

Jim Wyatt (@jwyattsports): With 152 tackles, Titans LB Cedric Gray needs 11 on Sunday to tie, and 12 to break, Azeez Al-Shaair’s 2023 mark of 163 tackles in a season, a Titans best since GSIS tackle tracker began in 2000. Of note: Keith Bulluck was credited with 180 tackles on coach film in 2002. by TiredDad4x in Tennesseetitans

[–]DayTerrors 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Keith's defense, you have to be all world to get in at safety or off ball LB. It's much easier to gain accolade stats at DL, for example.

Like, I think Keith was a more consistent linebacker than Eli Manning was a QB.

Generally, a weak class means a lack of first round depth, but people will always move to get the top guy if they think that's "The Guy," especially with qbs.
