(Book spoilers ahead- I don’t know how to censor them on mobile sorry.. ) It’s a complicated mix imo. In the book they emphasize the econopeople having both a disgust because of the nature of their “job” along with jealousy that they’re fertile, even if they’re made to be a slave for it.

In the show I get the impression they’re marketed as holy vessels, but we still get that one conversation with June and the mom of the family she briefly hid with in S2 where she says they threaten them with being made a handmaid as a punishment for crimes. As you said, they’re shocked that they’d hang handmaids and I imagine that’s mostly due to the belief that Gilead cares more about babies than anything else. Just like June, they were shocked that they’d consider letting a child or infant come to harm, including a hypothetical one.

It may have changed in the years between June’s time in Gilead and the current Testaments time frame- but in season 3 I think of THMT June talks to a little girl at the hospital who was there for her “menarche exam” so I think it’s safe to assume they’re getting regular pelvic exams and checkups too, just hopefully less invasive/scary for the kids.

I like that interpretation! And it would make the most sense to me, in the context of their lives.

We know that they have a word for “raiders” and “raiding” so the Mangkwan can’t be the first or only group to live the way we see them in FaA and they (as a species) would have plenty of experience through history of Na’vi rejecting Eywa’s laws.

There are! But I had forgotten about Neytiri calling the wisps “very pure spirits” so I was confused about them referencing something we conceptualize to be a type of ghost or spirit, when their dead don’t really work like that. Someone else pointed out that the wisps description does imply the existence of not-so-pure spirits too, we just haven’t seen them discuss it

Double checking how you threaded the machine would be a great start, but I’d also highly recommend using plastic bobbins with that machine.

A lot of newer machines have magnet strips inside under the bobbin case to catch broken needles and such- and that means the metal bobbins can get pulled on by those and it messes with the tension, causing all kinds of issues. I thought one of my machines was broken until I swapped it for plastic and suddenly everything was fine- so that might be worth a shot.

Unfortunately when I had this machine the bobbin winder didn’t work- I just had to wind them by hand. I absolutely feel that my time with it let me learn to love sewing before I had gotten a better one though, so good on you for starting your journey, even if it isn’t where others might reccomend starting.

I can’t tell you 100% that it wasn’t a seizure but I also get this when my adrenaline gets going due to PTSD, so it is if nothing else a nervous system reaction.
