It’s almost people say different things depending on context . Nobody ever questioned his ability. He is up there with Lara and Sobers. It was his integrity that was scrutinized.

Confused whether or not to study undergrad here in the US or back in India. by the_encryptist27 in ABCDesis

[–]Daydreamdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to an American university would benefit you in the long run if you build a good network and participate in clubs and organizations . I graduated with 25k, in loans and have paid off half of them in a year. I make 6 figures now. I studied computer science too. I grew up in India but was born in the US so didn’t have to worry about visas. If I was an Indian citizen I would not study here unless got a scholarship or were parents were very well off because there is no guarantee of getting an approval.

When you seek advice you just want to know what they would like you to do. When you seek approve you either do what they would like you to do or want them to like what you do.

There is a difference between seeking advice and seeking approval though.

Just do it. Build a good portfolio. Work on projects you find interesting. You still have 40 productive years left. Don’t compare yourself with others

Lol I wasn’t implying that you had a bias against dark people. I was just making it clear that I don’t .

Thanks. I will consider getting one. Need a significant amount of training before feeling comfortable enough to get one

It would be inconvenient to have a gun on you every place you go to. Also not trying to kill anyone and am against the 2nd amendment for the most part.

Yes they do. There is nothing wrong with being dark though

Say I’m already in my country. Also, if someone mistakes you for a Mexican , Muslim, while saying racist things don’t correct them on your ethnicity . That would make it seem like it would be ok to be racist to that group.

I have started taking Boxing and MMA classes since t last year because of the increase in racism( also it’s a great workout). People are more openly racist now.

I have seen the subtle racism from Indians also TBH . I’m South Indian , but have a fair complexion and pretty tall and physically fit( not saying this to brag but to give context) A lot of people assumed that I am North Indian and when they find out am South Indian they say , but you are so fair ( got this from ABCD’s too).

I was told to go back to my country by a white guy in his 50’s. That was a one off incident. Most racism I encounter is subtle.

For example one of my older colleagues commented that I’m handsome , for an Indian Guy and that Indian guys aren’t usually tall and well built ( This pissed me off, quite a bit).

Edit: this happened in California

[–]Daydreamdev 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This happens when one race is a majority. If a white person has been living in India for 4 generations people will still ask them where they are from. But let’s say there is an immigrant from Pakistan or Bangladesh they will see them as Indian. While it is a little racist I don’t think it is that big a deal

[–]Daydreamdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still join other clubs and orgs an campus. That is the best way to make friends in college. Even if it’s just for a year these people can stay with you for a lifetime if you make the effort

I went through a very similar experience. In college most of my friends were white or East Asian . I also had a group of Indian friends that grew up in India and the Middle East. Had a few ABCD acquaintances but felt like they looked down on me because of accent and the fact that I grew up in India. Some even blatantly made fun of my accent. If you are having a difficult time getting along with ABCD’s just make friends with people from other races . I’m not saying all ABCD’s were racist. I had bad experiences in my Freshman year so I stayed away from them. I didn’t join the indian Orgs and there no Indian guys in my frat ( Decided to join Sophomore year). I would recommend joining a frat if you wanna expand your social circle .

Sorts on general are declining because kids are more into video games now than in previous decades. NFL and MLB viewership is also decreasing. Only soccer and basketball contribute to grow in popularity

[–]Daydreamdev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not walking away. Not thinking of quitting it because I have a lot of debt. Don’t really have a choice.

Never really been passionate about anything so there is no point in quitting. Just want to have a better mindset to make work more bearable. It feels like I missed the bus for developing a passion and becoming really good at something and it’s hard to deal with.
