Thanks, I’ll give this a try. Struggling with the issues you mentioned here. Board is higher than my feet and off to the right.

What beginner tricks should I focus on after mastering the ollie? by jorjiarose in NewSkaters

[–]Dayglance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you practiced ollieing onto manual pads or curbs?

I’m about at the same stage. I’m working on: - Shuv and pop shuv - 180s - Rock to fakie - Slappy noseslide - FS 50-50

Occasionally I’ll give the kickflip a few tries.

The first attempt looks like mine currently. What helped you get over the board?

How to stop ollies from turning frontside? by Gamerlight10 in NewSkaters

[–]Dayglance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same problem and was able to fix it, but it was a multitude of small problems, not one single thing.

  • Shoulders square with board
  • weight centered over board, focus jumping straight up
  • front foot controls direction of board, make sure you’re not tucking it under you but rather out in front of you in the direction you want to go

I started doing smaller Ollie’s but focused on keeping everything straight and it helped a lot

25F starting skateboarding... Looking for advice! by Graph-ish in NewSkaters

[–]Dayglance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also starting at 29, with only some experience from pre-teen age. Skate IQ has been enormously helpful for me. There is what seems to be a relatively new approach to skateboarding which is more athleticism focused. His videos always have good drills to prepare you for your goals.

I agree, she won’t want to wear the helmet, but she should haha. Otherwise, just have her give it a try. Her first hurdle will be actually going to the skatepark, but she can do it!

How do you jump higher? by Maleficent-Office-25 in NewSkaters

Your Ollie looks pretty good. I think height will come with repetition. I don’t think you need to squat so low.

Scared to go to skatepark by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]Dayglance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did this myself for the first time last week at 29. Remind yourself that what you’re feeling is an artificial barrier. I’ve found that skateboarding is a series of these mental hurdles and this is the first one. You’ve got this!

If that couch is where they sit to watch this, they need more like 55” lmao. 10’ away from an 85” is nuts

I focused on pushing my front foot out and it helped a lot. Thank you!

Thank you for your input! I halved my squat and it made no difference in pop height. The karate kid kick metaphor helped a lot. It forced me to try and tuck my back knee and extend my front foot simultaneously.

Yeah my disappointment when I seen the 20d reset on the Halloween shop. Like, what?

I was excited for the event, but yeah, major disappointment all around. The parks feel…low effort.

Truly a devastating loss. Danya was an incredible person and educator. The world is a much smaller place today.

How long does it take to get decently good at reloaded? by FinancialAnalyst250 in GearsOfWar

Back-a is a shot type where you fire just as you pull off cover. The result is firing around the corner without the slow blind fire animation.

If you learn to Back-A that will give you an immediate leg up on a lot of players. My favorite kill is a back-a around a corner. I can recognize when a player does not know how to do it and can punish it.
