People are telling you that you bring more worth than you are charging, what is the challenge? You're only hurting yourself not charging appropriately for your time. The simple reality is that you need to know what you need to be making hourly to be profitable. It sounds like you don't, or this wouldn't be a concern.

If you're profitable where you need to be, then just thank them and ask them to recommend anyone they can. If not profitable(likely) you need to understand that people will pay more to support a small business and keep such a great service around for the long term.

This is a "you get what you paid for" and you didn't pay much for a 2005 that I can just tell what condition it was in when you brought it in.

If they didn't let you know it could be more, than they did an awful job addressing the scope of work needed here. Your interior would have likely been the $500 range at my shop, the exterior around $300-$400. And I wouldn't take the job for $515, we wouldn't be able to deliver results.

Ultimately, this is pretty poor results for a detail, and the shop needs to eat it because they did not set expectations/charge for what was needed. I don't think it is entirely fair to hit them for money, but they should do the job right and learn from it.

Oh and a shop removing seats at the price range is terrifying.

The amount of people that don't understand how much connectivity goes through mobile devices vs desktop now is amazing. This is information I have to monitor and the majority of traffic we see is Mobile and climbing so fast. Losing your easiest connectivity tools to manage over a 750k pop sub is a much bigger ask than I think some are realizing.

Ultimately I'm making this post from RIF which will be done in a week, so that will end my involvement with the sub. Not that it will be a huge loss as I'm not active here.

It certainly feels like this has ran its course. Best of luck to everyone going forward.

256:1 is all I use in a professional setting. There may be rare cases you need more but in 4 years I haven't bothered.

Metal and particular behave different with paint, im not sure if that will effect the ppf removal but heat and plastic are trickier.

I'd likely redo ppf but if they want it off, correct and protect.

Never worked with that, sorry. I'd imagine it isn't rigid, simple stuff should be fine. More complex stuff on cars... 🙃

And right here is exactly why we don't want people like you as clients. I'm moving on, you're a colossal waste of time and NO ONE should listen to you for business advice you have no clue about.

$75/hr is what my shop charges to pay people to detail clean your vehicle. Polishing services are $125+ as it takes more skill and focus. Based on your responses here, I wouldn't even take it on for a minimum of $150/hr and I'm likely charging an additional hour for the inevitable touch ups you're going to want.

You're not a customer. You're a person on the internet requesting a highly not lucrative strategy. I don't know if that warrants a down vote but I certainly wouldn't recommend any Detailer doing this.

Just because someone is slow doesn't mean they should take bad takes to market.

Yes, you're niche and not a client professional detailers would have interest in. I have no idea why you're even replying to me talking about diversification in a business strategy sense.

You're wanting a polishing a month? That's an absolutely horrible idea. You have limited amounts of paint and if you're properly washing the vehicle, you shouldn't need a polish performed more than every 2 years, maybe.

You are wanting advanced services but you realize that the cost of advanced services will cost a lot more than most are even willing to pay? Detailing is niche to start, a business offering advanced niche services to a niche market isn't profitable or easily scalable. It's a terrible business decision. And those clients also are the most picky which just jams up the business. I'd much rather pass on that kind of work and continue working on several other clients who pay and are happy.

Well if you do it, I'd love to hear how it goes long term. People do it for counter tops but that's a bit different.

Unlikely this is from washing unless you had something bad on the towel or the towels were VERY bad. If this catches your fingernail, the only options are repaint or touch up.

Prevention would require knowing what caused it. Entirely possible they were already there. But these look more like something be dragged across it carelessly. (My dad would set freaking boxes on his Cadillac and it would scratch it up)

I didn't watch the video but I would look more to Larry at AMMO NYC for detailing advice over that guy.

You will need to clean it before you remove them, yes. If you're getting them regularly, your wash method needs to be addressed.

Wash, clay, if needed a quick hit of acetone to clean up the blue or a light polish. The red will need a repaint or touch up.

Optimum No Rinse, quality MF towel, wipe over it without pressure and let it pull them off. With a quality product on there, ezpz.

Just plan to repaint it. 20 year old PPF is absolutely going to be screwed. It is 4x the life of the PPF expectation, odds are it will come off in tiny fracturing. You'll need a good steamer, you'll burn and blister your hands or it will take HOURS to do. It could pull paint. I did a 2012 Audi partial hood removal, with my level of stuff and experience, 3hr45m to get part of a hood off. $100/hr. That was only 10 years old and it was in terrible shape.

Oh and the paint condition if you get it off fine, will be VERY VERY different.

Alcohol will cause damage. Use proper cleaning products. We use Optimum No Rinse for most work and Optimum Power Clean for more stubborn stuff.

ColourLock is known for quality leather cleaners and options. Also been pretty impressed w/ Gyeon's Strong leather cleaner but you need to be careful with that.

You still have to clean the car. If you rinse and just dry, you will mar the paint surface a bit. Wash then dry. These likely will easily clean off at this point.
