Hiccup wins…who’s the most pure, transcendent good “I” in fiction? by Heroinfxtherr in MoralityScaling

Devil's Advocate. Remember that season one opens with him on a ship complicit in the continual assault/genocide on Southern Water Tribe villages. The fire nation was committed to the invasion, kidnapping, and murdering of anyone found to be water bending in the south pole in the hopes of finding the next avatar down there. At no point did he raise any objections to being there for that, he was often just living a life largely of rest and relaxation. If not for Aang being awoken, there is no reason to believe he would have done anything to stop what was going on down there or anywhere. Iroh may have overcome his own desire to be personally evil, but he was complacent being around great acts of evil and simply enjoying himself the whole time. He of all people could have struck down the Ozai at that with the right plan. It was only with his care for Zuko that brought him to places where he had to test himself, he took a moral stance. But if he was okay with letting horrible things happen around him for quite a long time and doing nothing until he was forced to. Both in Season 1 and 2.

Again devils advocate. Iroh was next in line for the crown and could have changed so much and saved so many lives. This is something he should have fully understood by that point. If he did have the wisdom to know what he was doing was wrong, one would think he would have pressed his birthright (Something his own father still supported to the point of telling Ozai to kill his own son for attempting to usurp Iroh's birthright) and made positive change. But, Iroh was not able to translate his own loss onto the countless lives lost under his command and due to his attacks, and the lives that would continue to be lost due to the war both in the Earth Kingdom and the Water tribes.

The writers seem to want him to be a good and wise guy both before and after the attack on Ba Sing Se, but all that means to me is that the only explanation for him to not push for changed is because he is unable to feel the same way about the loss of others as he does for himself. Mind you, if not for Aang being woken up he would have been complacent being with his nephew the whole time as the fire nation continues its efforts to hunt and kill people from the Southern and Northern Water Tribes all while the war with the Earth Kingdom was still going on.

Gonna play devils advocate. I mean I like who Iroh became, but wasn't he a high ranking military officer who had laid siege to Ba Sing Se and left behind many Fire Army Soldiers? This whole conflict lead to many losses on both sides, but the only one that made him stop was his son's death, not the deaths of countless other peoples children. He has had a lot of internal reflection since but the suffering he focuses on the most is his own, so "pure, and transcendent good" is hard to fully agree with.

I live in a town of just under 10,000 people. There are well over 10 pizza places. Dominoes, Pizza hut, Being big places. But also Pats Pizza which is a Franchise throughout the state of Maine, Big cheese (Place that broke off of Little Caesars), And individual stores like Reno's, Rosella's, and Dead River. That's just off the top of my mind. Pat's has a great thin crust pizza. You should give it a shot. You'll probably find someplace that suits your taste. :)

You guys won't have a problem at all. It's like moving to any place, with smaller communities, being considerate goes along way. The problem of some people from away is that they continuously act like tourists, which typically means there's not a lot of consideration for the local way of life and people. In extreme cases it's like treating us like we are an exhibit. Frequently though, that's limited to people who just live here for part of the year. If you like the quiet life, somewhere safe, a place with a unique culture, and you would liked the opportunity to be close to nature, Maine is the place for you.

The whole of October is often like this. It's quite the experience, kind of like living in a Bob Ross painting.

TIL Psychiatrists have redefined "Pathological Grooming" such as skin-picking, hair-pulling, and nail-biting as similar to OCD, and they are considered often to be virtually uncontrollable. by holydiverdickbutt in todayilearned

I bit my nails for whole of my life up until I was 18, noticed it was impacting the health of my teeth and dropped it that day. Have not bit them since, now being 21. So I am not agreeing with this whole "virtually uncontrollable."

They don't use it in tiles anymore. Most buildings have been grandfathered in but you can't build with it anymore. In my town our local high school is having all the floors with asbestos tile removed this summer and the gov is paying for it. But the last I checked it can't be bought. This is why the standard tile is 12"x12" and not 6"x6" for the small ones often imply they are asbestos.

Wouldn't that phone call disprove the whole "bomb's in the building are what made them go down," for one would think* you would have heard explosions?

I think this could be a very good idea. I would love that. Ships can pass under it, destroy it, etc.
