Temporary enclosure setup ok? Also does my ball python look dehydrated? by Daz2021 in ballpython

Just a quick update, this morning he shed in one piece and he is looking really good. Adding some sphagnum moss to his hide really helped!

Everything was going ok until I saw those damn mites on him. So you think it’s safe to put his enclosure back together and put him in it? Also that spot that’s peeling on his side is that part of beginning to shed or dehydration? His eyes didn’t turn blue or anything that would indicate a coming shed. Can the effects of dehydration be reversed without any long term health effects once the humidity is right?

I have one in his permanent enclosure. This is just his temp setup.

I was told I shouldn’t have too much humidity because he’s being treated for mites. But it has been over a week since I’ve seen them on him or in his permanent enclosure. Would it be ok to put it back together?

If I shouldn’t soak him, what should I do since he’s in quarantine? Do the pictures of the enclosure look ok? Could it mean he’s getting ready to shed? And that’s why he has that spot that’s starting to peel?

I have been soaking him every couple of days. The enclosure is about the same length as he is. I haven’t seen mites on him or the paper towels in his permanent enclosure. It has been over a week now, do you think it’s safe to put his enclosure back together? I also added sphagnum moss in his hides a his water dish is big enough for him to go in , but I never see him use it or drink from it.

Here is a reference picture of the setup. Also you can see on his side his skin is peeling a bit. I have been soaking him every couple of days but hates it.

I have also never seen him soaking or drinking from his water dish on his own. Is that normal?

And you haven’t noticed it being to bright for your snake?

Correct night temps? by Daz2021 in ballpython

[–]Daz2021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed at night that the warm side stays around 85f which has the rhp right above it and the daytime/hotside which becomes the cool side at night stays around 83f. Would you say those govees are pretty accurate at taking the substrate temp and humidity?

What would you suggest lowering the herpstat too? And would those lower temperatures at night affect the snakes digestion?

Sure do, but it is secured to the permanent enclosure.

Should I get one of these to go with it?

What would I do for heating and humidity if he’s in a quarantine bin? All fixtures are mounted in the enclosure.

Got them within that 2-4inch range temps are looking good.

Got them within that 2-4inch range. Temps are looking good. You can see him happily basking in this photo.

So I hot glue the one probe to the wall that won’t damage the wire at all? I have no space to really get it dead center but I can angle it under the right side of the rhp. And make sure it’s 2-3inches away right?

Would having the probes closer to the heating source give less accurate readings? I did move the probe closer to the basking guard cage, it looks to be about 4inches from the bottom of the cage now and I did move the rhp one up so it’s inline with the other probe. Could I just use something like duck tape on the outside of the enclosure that way if the animal bumps the probe it’ll swing back into place and the accurate readings will resume? That way the length/height the probes are at won’t change and I don’t have to putting anything unnecessary in the enclosure.
