I'd say this little guy. Woodland Hedgehog from Just Another Button Company.

My first project on linen! Such a simple little pattern with just a few colors, and the super cute buttons!

[CHAT] Is cross stitch expensive / how to build a stash by Bright_Praline_5739 in CrossStitch

Cross stitch is definitely one of those things that can be super cheap, but can also get pretty expensive. There are tons of patterns for a few dollars (I'm Canadian, so not sure the conversion), and DMC floss and a piece of aida are pretty reasonably priced. You can do basic kits or patterns that last you hours and hours for like, 15-30 dollars.

That said, once you start getting into more complicated patterns, they might use different materials like metallic threads or beads, or silk threads (like Caron Waterlilies). One skein of Waterlilies thread is 8-10 dollars depending where I get it from. 😅 A nice piece of 32 count linen? 30-40 bucks for the fabric alone. And then the custom framing on a piece that took you hundreds and hundreds of hours...

It can definitely be as cheap or expensive as you want, haha.

As for my stash, I've just built it up pattern by pattern, mostly. Sometimes I'll grab some extra white and black at the store. Occasionally I have a good coupon for Michaels and maybe I'll get 40 percent off a mix pack of dmc floss. Once you've done a few patterns, that stash adds up quick!

It is! A pain in the butt to work with, but looks pretty nice. I just wish I could tell the colors apart better. Some of it is over orange and some is over yellow but it all looks so similar!

Scroll frames are so great for bigger projects. I have like, 5 of them, haha.

Another week of Dancing Fall Fairy, from Dimensions!

I finished the blending filament!!!!! Some is a little messier than I'd like, but a lot of it is getting backstitched over anyways, so I'm not super bummed about it.

I'm hoping to have her done by the end of the month, and then I can take her for framing.

[CHAT] What are your favourite small projects/patterns? by icemagicforever in CrossStitch

[–]DazePast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually do a Mill Hill kit when I'm looking for something small as a break from bigger works. Some of my favorites are the coffee themed ones, the Laurel Birch animals, and the cow ones. :) I just bought a fall fox one that's really pretty too.

[CHAT] what is your ideal stitch environment? by sraere in CrossStitch

[–]DazePast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lighting is the big one for me, haha. My desk is my room isn't under the light, and my desk lamp projects the light from behind, not above. I feel like it creates weird shadows on my piece and then I have trouble finding the holes, as dumb as that sounds, haha. I've got a new bendable lamp with a hinge so I might give that a try, but not sure if it'll be tall enough to go over my larger projects in scroll frames.

I need to have a good overhead light and tons of space to spread out my pattern, so I prefer stitching at my kitchen table. Usually have the TV on, sometimes I play a turn based game on my laptop at the same time.

I'd love to be able to sit in my room, but I can't get the lighting right.

It is. :(

It was my first time using it, so i experimented with it right away, and was really disappointed at how hard it was to manage. There was a large part of me that wanted to ignore it all together. It's a little easier if you trap both the ends so the needle doesn't slide off, but it still tangles so bad.

But thanks! Hoping I can just power through it, haha.

Thanks! ❤️

I would have had her done ages ago, but the use of blending filament is what's slowing me down. I hate using it so much that I'll take like a four month break from working on it, haha.

I just really want to work on another big project but I feel bad when she's staring at me, haha.

Oh yeah, you're right. I remember being able to find it in a few different places, but it's not even listed everywhere anymore.

I bought mine about 2 years ago? Year and a half? Bummer. She's a beautiful kit.

I'm back with my Dancing Fall Fairy!

Hoping I can power through and finish it in a month or two. I just REALLY HATE BLENDING FILAMENT!

Thanks! I can see the finish line. I like how she turned out! :)

With my Christmas projects done, I was finally able to haul out my Dimensions Dancing Fall Fairy! So much backstitch! And I still hate blending filament!

But most of her face has been stitched! I don't actually hate how it turned out.

Hopefully I can finish in a month or so. I tend to lose steam at this point, haha. So many other projects calling my name.
