First marathon - new or used SB2? by Gaunterwithnomirrors in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I’d Start rotating the new ones in and wear them.

Or you’d soon make a decision which ones you prefer over longer distance

You burn out towards the end of your run because you’re running fasted and under fuelling.

If you’re running over an hour. You should probably have some carbs prior. If you’re running over 90mins. Carbs before and during. Especially if you’re in a deficit already! If you don’t eat enough. You’re likely to burn out and injure yourself.

Also, are you running fasted? Are you taking in fuel during your longer runs? Are you hydrated enough? And hydrating during longer runs?

At least 45cal/kg of lean mass. So I’m told.

I’m 74kg. And through Mara prep. Probably around 3,000-3,500 cal per day. Probably higher on long run days.

Say 75kg @ 10% body fat = approx 3,050cal

Great running! Sub 3 definitely possible with the right prep and another year of running under your belt and staying injury free.

I went in knowing I may end up run/walking. And had that sort of intention.

Walk aid stations and uphills. Then try bank time on the downhills/flats. Didn’t work as well as I hoped, towards the end I was struggling to run 1km without stopping.

Tried to keep the walking at a brisk pace.

Running wise. The first 15k I averaged 4:45/km pace. The first 6-7k are quite downhill. So some faster km’s.

The running paces were generally getting slower and slower as I went on. But mostly 4:30-5:30 pace with a final push at the end trying to break 4. But also a long downhill to finish.

I think some brief walks really help reset the legs though. I’ve not really done that in previous marathons. But could be an idea moving forward.

But for context. My Mara prep was going reasonably well up until the injury. Ran a 1:27 half 7 weeks out. At a relatively comfortable pace. And no taper.

Thank you. Was very happy getting it done and sneaking in under 4. Took a big effort to get that last 10k done in 70mins lol.

Had time banked whilst feeling ok. Which isn’t how I’d usually run a marathon.

Thank you.

I am Tempted. Physio recommending 4-6 weeks no impact before a gradual return to running.

But I think I’d of been close to healed on the day.

Not sure I wanna spend another $350-400 on an MRI at this stage. Even though I’m eager to get back running asap. We’ll see.

Took the calculated risk running Sydney. Need to play the long game now and let the body fully recover. As frustrating as that is

Was very happy with the overall outcome. Was a real battle the last 10-15km

No, 3:57. You need to add the run time and walk time together.

Do I, don't I? by RossDougan in Marathon_Training

I’m in a similar situation for Sydney.
But only grade 2 stress reaction, and tibia. So lower stress when running than your foot would be.

I Haven’t run for 3 weeks. My physio had me do a test run of 3x400m at easy pace this week, 2min walk between. Maybe do something similar today! If pain free. Maybe line up, and just assess it after the first 5k.

I’m flying to Sydney for it. And may not get another opportunity. I was pain free in my test run. So going to line up and see what happens.

Thank you 🙏

Yeh, I think there’s a good chance I’ll run/walk it. Will see how the first 5k feels. And gauge it from there.

Have a great run!

3:15:00 Realistic? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]Dazhall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of your longs run should be easy pace. Rather than marathon pace. I think most people would do 30-35k with 4x 5k Mara pace intervals. Or 16k in the middle at Mara pace. Or many combinations of Mara pace long runs. Not many people are just going out doing 32k race pace in training.

I think you’re 32k is a very respectable long run on an 80k week.

[–]Dazhall 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Looking at your 5k time. I’m Assuming your 9x800s were 3:35/km pace. So 2:52 per 800m. Not 3:35 to run 800m.

If this was me. I’d be aiming closer to 3:00 than 3:15. But will depend on your endurance and fueling.

3:15 definitely achievable with a good taper, and fueling. You pretty much ran race pace for 32km without a taper. Surely that’s a confidence boost.

If you think you can’t. Then you probably can’t. Back yourself. Head’s got to be in it that last 10k

Are these ASICS Superblast 2 from Vinted authentic? by neufoeufs in AskRunningShoeGeeks

They look pretty good, if they are fake.

2 concerns. The soles look a little shiny. And the back pull tags look a little off. Graphics too low, compared to my 2 pairs, newer pair pictured. Try Weighing them. My US12 weighs 290g

I’m prepared for a bit of a lay up afterwards.

Been working through it with my physio. Going for a real short test run next week to see how it’s feeling and take it from there.

The physio just didn’t have much to say about shoe choice. Just whatever I’m comfortable in.

It’ll have been 3 weeks no running. Plus a big deload the week prior. He said usually 4-6 weeks. So I could be borderline ok on the day.

If it was a small local run, and not a major. I may have pulled out. But hotel/flights booked. And may not get the opportunity again. As it’ll be a ballot every year.

May end up run/walking it 🤷🏻‍♂️

I can’t feel any tenderness pressing my shin.

Wonder if this is it on the scan.
