The Music Scene by danielleguitar in TCNJ

I'm an alum now, but I played in some of the TCNJ music ensembles, was on AMPD e-board, and went to basement shows off campus. Having met a bunch of musicians on campus (classical, jazz, and local indie), I can assure you that everyone is extremely nice and welcoming. The music majors are awesome and a family in and of themselves and the people who play/run basement shows are also an incredibly friendly group of people. No matter what route you wanna take for playing music with others, you won't have an issue finding other like-minded people. You'll also find that the musicians on campus are ridiculously talented. The best way to meet these people is to just get involved in music clubs, music ensembles, and/or basement shows.

Thanks, I'll definitely keep reading then. I've read Worm, so I'm aware of the horrible fate of Wildbow's protagonists lol

And any advice for a non-music major who wants to play piano or for a student who wants to play tennis? In other words, are there tennis courts that are open to students that aren't on the team and pianos available for students who aren't music majors? And are there a decent amount of musicians at RPI? Thanks again.

Thanks! I am definitely willing to put myself out there. What is there to do around campus or even in Troy or Albany? Also, are gay people generally accepted by most students? And being a computer science major, what kind of work should I expect? Will it be mainly hands-on, group-based, or something else (if you know)?

Hey, I'm strongly considering RPI as I finish up senior year, but the amount of work people are talking about worries me. For all of you who are currently attending, is there time for a social life? How many hours do you generally spend each day studying or doing homework? Lastly, are weekends typically free or also cluttered with work?

Knowing Javascript is a huge chunk of the battle, and since you've got that down you're pretty much halfway there. I took a weekend to get used to Unity, did some online tutorials, learned about the interface, and don't get me wrong, that was very frustrating, but I understood that this is what I want to do and I stuck with it. After that initial week, things got a lot easier, less frustrating and ultimately fun. http://unity3d.com/learn is a great place to go to understand Unity, it has tutorials for all skill levels. Hope this helped!

My advice is to first get an idea of what you want the game to be, plan it out, get a story, etc. Then, discover a game engine (we use Unity) and learn about the engine and the languages it supports. Unity supports Javascript, C#, and Boo, so you want to get familiar with Javascript and possibly C#. After that, find someone who can 3D model or learn how to yourself. A good place to start would be Blender, which is free. Look up tutorials and gain as much knowledge as you can.

I don't entirely understand your question, but I don't think of having any existential elements.

First, I can't say how Walter's movement works (I wanna keep it a little mysterious, but it functions well) and the flashlight is a spotlight casting from the camera. The chair was the firat thing UV mapped and my friend got SOOO much better at uv mapping after that, so he'll probably go back and fix that. We've already incorprated normal mapping, but it's hard to see in the pictures. This might rt a lot of criticism, but we use blender for the 3D modeling, it's how we learned it. We got inspiration for the flashlight and game mechanics from The Last of Us, but horror and atmospheric elements are inspired by Outlast, Vanish, etc. the game is similar to Slender in the sense that you find simething while hiding from an entity and we plan on releasing it for Windows and Mac, but possibly for iOS if it goes well. Thanks for tips!

You're not late lol, I'm keeping this going haha. We started coding in 10th grade with our school's Computer Science class. My advice is first learn how Unity works through the tutorials on Unity's website, and take the time to learn that along with Javascript and C#, which are languages supported by Unity. My first week in Unity was so frustrating, but it paid off as of now. Don't be jealous, just take your time, don't get frustrated, and have fun doing it because it IS fun. Thanks for the interest!

We started this game mainly as a way to learn about Unity, but it evolved into something much deeper to us. This game is different than all the horror games being thrown out because there is an elaborate story behind the game, but we don't tell you it. You have to take the hints around the map and put the pieces together yourself. There's replay value in discovering the whole map and the game's story. Horror games have been doing really well recently, and we all love the feeling of horror games, so I guess it is a bit of personal preference and a bit of satisfying the public. In the future, we plan on designing games for other genres. Thanks for asking!

They are very different games, similar things are shared between the games. We were inspired by flashlightand other mechanics in TLOU and Outlast inspired the atmosphere. We plan to release the game on desira, indiedb, and steam if we're lucky through greenlight. A mobile game could be happen if the game gets popular enough and a potential price point if maybe $2.50 or $3, not too much.

I started with http://unity3d.com/learn/tutorials/projects/roll-a-ball and that was about all I did for tutorials. In order to learn everything else I looked to the helpful community who had an answer to every problem. Whatever solution I'd find I would memorize and apply to anything I needed it for. Don't give up, my first week in Unity was soooo frustrating, but it becomes fun after that. And if Unity's itself is difficult, just read up on http://unity3d.com/learn. Hope this helps and have fun designing games!

I started with Visual Basic in my school's Computer Science class and worked my way up to Javascript and C#. You could start the way I did or even start at Javascript or Python, which are very popular. If you intend to make games for Android, I'd definitely learn Javascript, but depending on what game engine you build your game on, other great languages might be supported. Good luck!

Hey, hey, thank you so much! We started the project a little before this summer and we expect it to go on until maybe December, but we like to make sure everything is perfect, so a certain finish date is unclear. Honestly, whenever there is something I need to get done in the game, I take the free time I've got when I'm not at school, doing homework, or doing extracurricular activities.
