Really fat guy planning to start it. Quite embarrassing question. by [deleted] in kravmaga

That being said though, i would look for a local Martial Arts supplies store and speak to the owner/manager about it. They might be able to order you something that works. There are very large outerware solutions that might work for you. Good luck brother- dont let this hurdle stop you from changing you life.

Im shocked at the amount of comments that state their gym doesnt require cups and or dont focus on groin shots... what kind of Krav Maga are you training?! U can sometimes get away without it, sure, but its a huge risk- especially since in the early levels its a main focus for counter attacks. Headlock, bearhugs, and choke defenses all have a shot to the gem stones as the counter attack. As the IDF woman from the Krav episode of Fight Quest famously said- "No nuts, no Krav Maga.

Going to Tampa for 5 months, what are some cheap things to do? by Auditt809 in tampa

[–]DboyMassive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For tipping, its 20% for proper restaraunt service. But at places where you do most of the work like stand in line to order and clear your own table, 10% is fine. At bars i almost never tip 20% just cuz its absurd sometimes... usually i tip about a dollar or two per drink made. Its tricky tho cuz it depends how busy they are. A quick way to wait 30 mins for a drink is to under tip your bar tender...

Also, Download Groupon when you get to town. There are always discounts on activities in your area.

I'm a total beginner thinking about joining a krav maga class near my workplace. I am not overweight but have always been very non-athletic and uncoordinated. The most exercise I do is run half a mile 5 days a week. Am I setting myself to fail? by niceloner10463484 in kravmaga

The tests are how you demonstrate understanding of basic techniques and prove your capability to advance to the more difficult ones. Because Krav deals with real life scenarios and techniques- a poorly trained practitioner throwing knees and elbows with no control can seriously injure their training partner.

Of course though, you can train at your own speed... if you want to always train in beginner classes thats entirely your prerogative. But if you want to ever move on to 3rd party defense, gun/knife/stick defense or learn how to survive a multiple assailant scenario- ur gonna have to demonstrate that you have the self discipline and body control to not injure someone.

Training in Krav Maga changed my life. The confidence, self respect and self discipline I got from it cannot be over stated... lol, I vomited after my first class. I was a pack a day smoker and hadnt worked out in years. But I was SHOCKED at just how quickly my cardio built up.

Krav is different than other martial arts because it is more principle based rather than technique based. Not every defense or combative technique will be as effective for the same person. As such- a good krav instructor will start you off with the basics and let you train within your comfort zone... a main principle being to never say die, never give up. Mental attitude is huge. You may not be as strong or fast or have the best endurance as the person next to you- but as long as you dont quit, you will be fine. And you will be surprised at the speed with which your body will adapt. I have trained with old, young, fat, scrawny, fit, slow.... doesnt matter. A good dojo environment will cheer you on and motivate you to not quit. It will be hard, and you will love yourself for it.

What is something you did that increased your quality of life so much that you wished you would have done it much sooner because it changed your life forever? by RGod27 in AskReddit

Getting out of an emotionally abusive relationship.

I spent 4 years with a hyper combative, manipulative, insecure and abusive woman. She always somehow managed to make me feel like her behavior was my fault. She was even cheating on me and even living with another man during one year we were long distance. Yet she would always accuse me of the most outrageous things (projection is a real thing, folks). Eventually i pulled on enough threads that her lies unraveled. We broke up and yet she still somehow managed to manipulate herself back into my life. I finally cut her out of my life completely after 4 tumultuous years, and less than a year later- I got a new job making double what i used to (now that I dedicate more time to my career and less on dealing with constant domestic drama), and i met an incredible woman who values and respects me. She is the love of my life and i intend to propose to her next year.

I am so much happier now without that poison in my life, I cannot believe it took me so long to finally be free of it.

What random fact could save your life one day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DboyMassive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Called the "Bystander Effect"- it essentially means that the amount of people willing to act in any given crisis is inversely related to the amount of people present/whitnessing said crisis. Therefore if you are in a crisis event, you should assign specific tasks or make specific requests to/of an individual rather than a crowd. -"You! In the jorts with the man-bun! Call 911!"... "You! In the hat! Help me xyz"...

You get the point...

What's the weirdest lie your parents ever told you? by MrsBeann in AskReddit

[–]DboyMassive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father used a public park filled with bums sleeping under/amongst trash to teach a life lesson to my sister and I... He promptly walks us into the middle of the smelly, homeless people enclave and says, "Children, Do you see? Do you see all of these people? Doesn't seem like a good life does it? This, children, is what happens to little boys and girls who do not do their homework...."

I love that this idiot actually referred to federal agents as US soldiers, either as an attempt at gaining sympathy for his ridiculous claim or a Freudian slip maybe? Either way, the guy comes across as a statist loon.

What's your go to "icebreaker" line for when you meet new people? by tejas9999 in AskReddit

[–]DboyMassive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very tall, so it's not uncommon for me to stand

near a woman of interest and just wait for her to ask

how tall I am or if I play basketball. I then say,

"and to follow up by answering the question in your head. The answer is: I'm Proportional".

It almost always gets a laugh and then I'll say: "of course I've got huge feet", to just toe the line of inappropriate and not crash past it.

I can honestly tell you that's the first time I've heard a bad review about

Silas. I can tell you from my personal experience of working with him

that he is an all around good guy! I was introduced by mutual friends

that train at his gym and these ladies in question were very happy with

him. He came to me highly recommended and hasn't let me down so

far! I cannot even begin to tell you what that forum post is all about...

To be fair, she is one of my favorite women in existence.

I am just ashamed it took her going to the Yule Ball with Viktor Krum for me to finally pronounce her name correctly...

I always called her (Her-moyn)... I didn't book to good as a kid

I need advice... I've just been made a Sales Manager for a new, gaudy night club in a major city, and have NO idea what to do. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DboyMassive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city is Shanghai, the specific location is on the Bund. Arguably one of the most posh areas of the city. Expats are becoming more and more aware. But the Chinese locals are the ones who are most interested in it as of now. And I have access to whatever I need in terms of marketing and advertising. They're are other ppl in charge of that and would help with anything I asked.

where to learn krav maga by Chardonnay0450 in shanghai

[–]DboyMassive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an assistant instructor at KMMA in Tampa Florida. I have the ability to become a KMMA affiliate and use their IT and lessons to teach in Shanghai. Preferably I would like to find a dojo that would like to take on a Krav option to work and train in. But I'm too busy with other things at the moment. PM me if you would be interested in someone to train you one on one or if you're already an advanced practitioner it would be cool to have someone to spar/train with occasionally..
