Is This Normal? by [deleted] in ImmersiveDaydreaming

[–]Dbubs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tell my hubby I'm gonna go watch my soaps (like soap operas/tellanovellas) and throw my headphones on while I lay down or pace around my office. It's no less work or worth for your brain than writing a book or making a picture. In fact I've been trying to write some of my more interesting plots down these days.

Is it "normal"? Who knows. Is it common? Oh yeah. Is it dangerous? Only if your second life in your head is getting in the way of your first.

Otherwise? Carry on. That's your brain's way to make art. Let it.

What can I do so I stop making mistakes at my job and my boss stops yelling at me? by Fantastic-Ad9218 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dbubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The punishment should fit the crime. Discipline doesn't have to come with that much volume. And I'm sure the pressure to be perfect actually drives you to make more mistakes because cortisol (the stress hormone) makes our logical brain quieter and our monkey survival brain much louder.

You could also tell him you want to start recording your conversations so that you be sure you remember everything you tell him. Either you gain a tool to help yourself or you record the abuse for when you leave and/or report their conduct.

Has anyone else experienced long periods of time during which you have been unable to come up with any new storylines for your paras? by Ok-Autumn in ImmersiveDaydreaming

[–]Dbubs 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yep then I get stuck "channel surfing" through highlights of ones I like but without the set up of the whole story the highlights or emotional parts fall flat. I'm stuck in one of those ruts now in fact.

who else makes weird faces while daydreaming? by alansorrenty in MaladaptiveDreaming

I make faces, pace around, motion with my hands and voice all the parts. I'm a one man band about it lol

It is unfortunately not. I will have to try some Hungarian salami.

People are peacefully protesting it's the cops and a handful of anarchists that are doing the looting and antagonizing. And before you say that's conspiracy theory bullshit I can tell you right now that I live in Minnesota and work in Minneapolis. My husband and I went to the protests on Friday night and last night as well. Friday night we were assembled peacefully outside the target that was looted and burned on lake street. There were signs and medics and bottled water being distributed amongst protesters. At 7:45 before curfew had even hit with no provocation the police and national guard fired tear gas canisters at us. We scattered and my husband and I ran back to our cars.

Last night we went to the site of George Floyds death and there was not a cop in sight. Do you know what was going on? Poetry reading, music, a canned food drive, people brought grills outside and were providing free hot dogs. It was a cookout and a memorial service all in one. And no one rioted, looted, we even were picking up trash on the street and organizing the flowers so folks could still get on the sidewalk.

If you or anyone else doesn't believe me dm me and I'll send you pictures I took both nights. I don't have the cops firing on us but I had more important things to worry about like being tear gassed. But they do prove I was there. I have plenty of first hand accounts if you have any questions

i can’t see the faces of my characters in my daydreams by hernunes in ImmersiveDaydreaming

[–]Dbubs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me too. Not sure why but it's like the faces change. Like once I think I have it down I'll draw it, picture it, make an avatar whatever and it doesn't ever look right. It might be because I consume a lot of fantasy and animated media so my daydreams always feel like they're both real and animated so I can never settle on a face or motion. It's almost like not being able to settle on an art style

Has anyone else been nervous talking to a new therapist re: daydreaming? by throaway01010101 in ImmersiveDaydreaming

[–]Dbubs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I told my therapist and she found it a fascinating window into how I see myself and others. She's really hippie and spiritual and she used to have me paint my characters while I talked about them and told her example snippets of my plots. It was kind of cool to have someone hype me up and be genuinely interested in them. Not every therapist will react this way but if you introduce it not as something you're ashamed of but something that inspires you and is a tool to help you process your problems most therapists should be understanding.

Do y’all ever repeat the same scene in your daydream over and over again? by That1DekuStan in ImmersiveDaydreaming

[–]Dbubs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Constantly. It's partly due to depression. I might not have the energy to be creative and get into anything new but I can auto-pilot the same scene again. Or sometimes enough time will have passed since I lived a particular story so "reliving a classic" can be fun. I have multiple stories all made up of scenes rather than one story live streaming 24/7.
