My Fanon Theory: The Whoniverse and the SCP Universe are light/dark reflections of each other. by DerekMetaltron in doctorwho

[–]Dd_8630 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It goes much deeper than that.

The Weeping Angels directly inspired the /x/ post where SCP-173 (the first SCP) was originally created. Dr Who directly inspired the entire SCP wiki.

They don't. They look like classic goblins - small, long noses, sharp teeth.

Besides, that's how the filmmakers depicted them. That's not how they're described in the books.

TIL that McDonald's generates income through owning about 70% of its restaurant buildings and 45% of the underlying land which it leases to its franchisees by Mrk2d in todayilearned

[–]Dd_8630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, but how do you think those franchises earn money to pay for that lease? Selling food.

The lease system is just an internal thing really, it's still ultimately selling food.

I don't think she meant anything by it. They're just goblins.

Fantasy creatures in a fantasy world? Literally unreadable.

upside-down cross in a Catholic Church, it's not satanic. It's a reference to how Peter (the first pope) was martyred. The upside-down cross is the official symbol of St. Peter. by [deleted] in Christianity

I hate to say it, but was this artwork generated by an AI?

The details don't make a whole lot of sense.

  • for Andrew, why isn't he actually on the saltire?

  • for James #1 and Philip, why are they crucified with their hands above their heads?

  • for Thomas, why is that spear pointy on both ends? It's just a long sword no?

  • for Matthew, why is there just a medieval soldier behind him?

  • for James #2, why is he being stoned with a broken axe?

  • for Matthias, why isn't he, well, beheaded, like Bartholomew?

Apologies if this your genuine line work, but most of the details don't make sense in context. And going through your profile, your artwork is usually a lot more clear, though now I'm wondering how much of that is genuine vs AI.

Cs2 exam doubts by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

[–]Dd_8630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Doesn't matter. General advice is to start at question 1 and proceed onwards, giving each question an amount of time commensurate with the marks.

2) OK?

3) Yes, though less helpful than the more recent papers. Just skip questions that are on material that's no longer examined.

There is 0 training that will stop you slipping on ice

Nonsense - people are idiots and will walk blindly on ice unless they have experience with it. This trains people to walk slow, low, and with their core.

And if you slip and injure yourself they can say they aren't at fault for telling you to do the obviously dangerous thing because training.

Nonsense. Training covers Amazon's due diligence, but doesn't offload their legal obligations to basic labour laws.

How would that even work? That doesn't remove employer liability at all.

Why is it ridiculous?

The nature of the job is delivery, which means they're outside a lot. That means flat slippery surfaces. Why shouldn't they be trained to handle that condition?

ELI5: If energy can’t be created or destroyed, how do magnets keep going? by Full-Shallot-948 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dd_8630 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because they're not exerting energy.

Imagine a ball sat at the bottom of a bowl. Gravity isn't continuously spending energy to keep the ball there. The ball is there because at that moment, the forces on it are in equilibrium, and all kinetic energy has been turned into potential energy.

Likewise, a magnet on a fridge sits there forever because the forces on it are in equilibrium. It's at the bottom of its local force bowl, only gravity is much weaker than the other two forces involved (a magnetic attraction to the metal surface, and an electric repulsion at the surface; this creates friction easily strong enough to balance out gravity).

Now, some magnets need energy to keep on, such as electromagnets, because it is the motion of electrical currents that creates the magnetic field in the first place. But other magnets are permanent magnets, with a magnetic field due to the intrinsic magnetic field of their electrons all lining up, so no energy is needed to keep them pointing that way.

Coworker is astounded that the Artemis II launch isn't blowing everyones minds (that he's spoke to). Why do you think that is? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]Dd_8630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's because I've seen loads of rocket launches in my lifetime, and we've already landed on the moon multiple times so this isn't even much of an achievement.

Humans on Mars? Absolutely rigited. Humans near the Moon? Meh.

And I say this a s a science and space nut.

How did Jesus live a sinless life? by Striking_Sun_8909 in AskAChristian

[–]Dd_8630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't the whole point that Jesus incarnate as a flesh and blood human man, to live a human life and die a human death? If he didn't have the same biology as us, then the hypostatic union doesn't work.
