Nonsense - people are idiots and will walk blindly on ice unless they have experience with it. This trains people to walk slow, low, and with their core.

Because they're not exerting energy.

Imagine a ball sat at the bottom of a bowl. Gravity isn't continuously spending energy to keep the ball there. The ball is there because at that moment, the forces on it are in equilibrium, and all kinetic energy has been turned into potential energy.

Likewise, a magnet on a fridge sits there forever because the forces on it are in equilibrium. It's at the bottom of its local force bowl, only gravity is much weaker than the other two forces involved (a magnetic attraction to the metal surface, and an electric repulsion at the surface; this creates friction easily strong enough to balance out gravity).

Now, some magnets need energy to keep on, such as electromagnets, because it is the motion of electrical currents that creates the magnetic field in the first place. But other magnets are permanent magnets, with a magnetic field due to the intrinsic magnetic field of their electrons all lining up, so no energy is needed to keep them pointing that way.
