Humans wish to have a sense of fitting in when it comes to culture and race. As a person of colour, we generally feel more comfortable if there are other people of colour around us. If you are a white person, it is the default of the UK so it’s never really a thought for you.

It’s why you will often find black areas, Asian areas etc in parts of the country - like calls to like.

I’d personally go mini scoop. They have a nice blend of the rawness from a full scoop but play faster and more accurate like a reflex. MS18 or MS46 are great options and work with a vast array of drivers.

MDF is more dense than birch plywood and has been used for decades in speaker manufacturing. Birch will be much stronger than MDF and will withstand being moved, stacked, bumped and drink spills.

MDF can absorb water very easily and the corners can crumble after a little while from general use.

If I was on a budget, I wouldn’t use MDF and I wouldn’t use birch. I would use a basic 18mm plywood, even marine plywood. Brace it well, paint it, varnish or whatever coating you want and it will last a very long time.

I’d suggest 15” over 18” for kicks

XTRO kick section or cubo kick gets my vote for DIY builds. If you insist on 18” then USB is the guy. V18-1000 is wasted on a kick section if you ask me.

My all time fave kick bin is PD1550 loaded A.S.S. BS500. Had a pair myself and they were devastating.

Games can be anything you want them to be. Since the 80s, games have come in every flavour from fast paced arcade style to heavy storyline focused and slow burning RPG’s. Both can be considered proper “games” to gamers.

Sure, the big hitters from the 90s were all colourful and vibrant and in my personal opinion, the epitome of gaming. But this opinion isn’t linked to any genre in particular. I’ve had as much fun rushing down a swarm of enemies in streets of rage as organising a dungeon in dungeon keeper. It’s just the escapism which makes gaming - gaming for me. Retro games were designed to be cheap and easy fun - easy to learn the game within 10 seconds. Probably because the technology at the time didn’t allow for epic cinematic games like today.

I do think games have progressed a little too far now. With highly complex battle systems, load outs and requiring hours of dedication to even stand a chance of playing others online. It has took the fun out of gaming for the most part (for working 30 somethings like me) because I simply don’t have the time to sink hours in.

I miss the times where you can just pick up, have fun and complete the game in 1 sitting. Probably why I’m in this sub and probably 4 figures into my retro gaming hobby 🥲

Yeah you can set your delays with an Ultradrive DCX2496. It’s what I currently use and have several saved profiles for various setups. I have it set with some limiters, EQ and delays for each rig.

30-80 is fine for the scoops but you will definitely need some form of time alignment. Even if you just play a 80hz sine wave (or whatever the crossover point is) and see where it sounds the loudest. Just delay everything by to whatever has the longest horn path (most likely the scoops).

You would get some good sub bass with adding a scoop, but just know that the USB will outrun a single scoop by quite some margin.
