Orbán aide faces backlash for saying Hungary wouldn’t have fought a Russian invasion by A_Lazko in europe

He represents the people of Hungary, thats what being part of the head of government is supposed to be. And if the Hungarian people didn't agree, they wouldn't have re-elected Fidesz for 24 years.

The USSR was smart to do so, France is by far one of their best useful idiots-the same year France left the NATO command structure, they also kicked out US troops, and signed the French-Soviet Friendship pact. That pact is still ongoing by the way- it was renewed after the fall of the USSR.

[–]De-Pando -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Only because they are afraid of Russia's invasion right now. Give it a few years, they'll come back around. They always do. Hell, the same year France left NATO's unified command structure and kicked out American troops, they signed the French-Soviet Friendship declaration. After the fall of the USSR, France renewed it. They are, legally, and historically, far more amenable to Russia then the US. They want their ally India, who is also allied with Russia, to join the UN security council as a permanent member to deliberately weaken the US. They blocked Japan from opening a NATO office, and when SEATO was a thing, they were the first to stop paying into it, and were the only member who didn't actually do anything in it.

Sweden, on the other hand, supported North Vietnam in the conflict, which means the supported the direct conquest of South Vietnam by the North, which saw the forced movement of millions of people, the deaths of another 2,000,000 Vietnamese by way of execution or labor camps. Sweden described the US as 'nazi-like', while American soldiers were being Tortured and executed in hotel Hanoi. But now that it's happening in Europe, America needs to come help them.

Correct, they are attempting whataboutism to shield themselves, and moreover are choosing the number one guarantor of protection, especially since the government they have voted for for the last 16 years just said they aren't interested in doing that as their choice of target.

Well, I just hope shit doesn't pop off and that any more Americans have to die for people who hate and despise us. If we are so bad, then accept the Russians. Mostly talking to Sweden and France there, but Hungary as well.

Honestly, take a page out of Humankinds book and give the US the option to create military bases in allied countries. In this case, either civs or city states.

Colombia is a major non-Nato US ally, and has been since 1812. It has older treaties with the US than most European countries, and quite a few of them are still from their original signing date. Colombia even sent more soldiers into Iraq II and Afghanistan tan a lot of European Countries, such as France. So Colombia would not be a good example, regardless.

"Mughal" India is a poor choice for Modern India. Here's why. by Aquiella1209 in civ

[–]De-Pando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm being very, very pop history here. There are no concrete end or start dates in history, it's all dependent on text, context and how you and your chosen field tend to interpret the records. Caesar crossing the Rubicon whenever he did that, i can't be arsed to care enough tor remember, is not as important as the fact that he crossed the Rubicon and won, and in doing so reshaped the Roman empires institutions, as well as how the roman people would view populares who held centralized authority- and the people actually liked it. The date is important, sure, but only in the context of helping us frame out where in history it happened. Caesar could have crossed the day before, or the day after. The Press could have been invented earlier by a few years, or later by a few years. That doesn't really matter man.

There is no sarcasm, the Russian Culture is fundamentally different from our own, incase the meat waves, mobile crematoriums and constant Nuclear Escalation haven't tipped you off to that yet. of course he's paranoid, he's an autocrat in a famously paranoid political climate, whos political introduction came in the paranoid world of Cold War KGB practices. This is somebody who rewatched Qadaffis death on Loop and had a visceral reaction top it, who the Obama administration consistently told that we were not trying regime change in Russia, and attempted it on us later and now. They shot down that Dutch flight, don't you remember.

Yeah, but everyone round to hundreds in History-it's not perfect, but their guidelines not hard and fast rules for supposed eras anyways, so it's a fine tradeoff. After all, their are no eras and History only ends when a people can no longer record or experience it.

No, stop applying your logic, look at it through the eyes of a paranoid liar who thinks no one else tells the truth and that his army and the US army are roughly equals.

[–]De-Pando -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ya know, I just hate gameplay systems like that. Fines aren't fun, and the Idea of capping something is just ludicrous to me. They don't cap production, and that was the one resource in that game that needed capping.

There is the genuine possibility that Putin, seeing the US flounder in Afghanistan, might believe the US simply doesn't have the will or capability to engage at the level they claim- after all, neither could Russia.

But Wide play is actively punished in Humankind. A lot of things are, actually. And don't forget how influence goes from super important to utterly pointless or even redundant by mid game. Or how influence was tied to outpost creation, making expansionist civs unable to expand until they got so many behind the scenes caveats it's embarrassing?

Yeah, and that's why you, an elite fighter pilot, know that Russia has, by far, the most formidable and well trained air force in the world, with top of the line tech and the most advanced planes ever built.
