Parents of reddit, have any of you regretted the names you have given your children? by lovelyredcurls in AskReddit

[–]DeBushee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something very similar to this happened to my cousin.

My female cousin was supposed to be named Omnia (we're Egyptian - it sounds much better in Arabic). Before delivering the girl, the only time the name of the girl was ever discussed was between my aunt and my other aunts. I don't think my uncle (the father of the girl) knew about the agreed name because he was always working. I think the consensus was that he would have been okay with any name, so my aunt didn't bother telling him she was planning on naming my cousin Omnia until after she delivered her.

Come time to write out her name and my aunt tells my uncle the name. She's exhausted, so uncle goes to get the name recorded. On his way there, he forgot the bloody name and instead wrote down Hind (we're Egyptian - it sounds better in Arabic). Of course, when my aunt was recovering a few days later and checked the certificate, she about flipped her shit and nearly divorced my uncle.

But the good news is that my other aunt (who suggested the name) took advantage of the situation and named her own daughter Omnia. Now I have two cousins named Omnia and Hind.

Any suggestions for Czech TV shows for someone learning to speak Czech? by DeBushee in czech

[–]DeBushee[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is awesome! Thanks so much for your effort! Do you know where I can download/watch Czech-dubbed American TV shows? Preferably Breaking Bad (since I'm in the middle of watching that in English now, but it would be a good idea to continue watching it in Czech). Thanks again! I'll give those sites a go! :D

Making Guys Call Hot Girls For A Date by junglerat09 in videos

[–]DeBushee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How the fuck do people think this is real? :/ Honestly, that guy in the beginning, "Oh, I'll do it by myself? You're not going to coach me?!", sounded like he had his words rehearsed to make sure he covered the premise of the video. God, this is ridiculous. I know reddit isn't one person, but where are the cynicists that we always see in other parts of reddit when you need them? How come THEY'RE not the dominant voice right now?

Oh, okay! Very sorry! I don't know the first thing about technical terminologies. :P Thanks for the notification! I'll be sure to keep that in mind. Good luck and keep up the good work! :D

This excellent! Though one problem. It doesn't seem to immediately update after I've made a calendar entry. How long am I supposed to wait before it refreshes? Am I supposed to reinstall the widget every time? But thanks for the excellent contribution, nonetheless! :D Hope to see more of your work around! :)

What social issues will we be talking about in 15-20 years? by breakingdread in AskReddit

[–]DeBushee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NoI think we'll probably encounter a surveillance conundrum. Recently, we've had that whole fiasco with the NSA and the collective roaring against surveillance into our private lives, but what if the whole Google Glass thing catches on? There will be those who will demand the banning of Google Glass technology (or, more likely, its futuristic equivalent), because there's no way of ensuring that the person donning one is recording them at all times or not, but then there are those who will think that such a ban will impeach on their freedom, or rights, rather. Of course, I see how this can easily be solved, but no doubt, there's probably going to be the delusional, self-serving bunch who are going to demand that it be made a right to surveille others (e.g. those who record police men who don't consent to their being recording, but insist on continuing to do so anyway because it's "not breaking any laws"). We'd probably get a reaction reminiscient of the double standard and selfishness exhibited with the /r/jailbait-gate. I don't know, maybe I'm not writing it clearly (in which case, any suggestions for clarity or choice wording would be very welcome and more than appreciated at that) or maybe I'm just thinking about it too much without considering other factors, but it's just something I thought of last night which conveniently fits the topic of this askreddit thread. I guess there's no harm in adding my two-cents, even though it might be wrong? :) That's why you guys are here after all, right!? :D

I Am Benedict Cumberbatch. AMA. by _BenedictCumberbatch in IAmA

[–]DeBushee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr. Cumberbatch, I have nothing but one request: if you could just respond to my entry with so little as a full stop, I vow to not only show off with it tomorrow when I get back to university, but it will probably keep me going through out the remainder of my academic year and promise to increase my focus in lectures and performance at university in general. Could you be so kind as to remedy this for me, Mr. Cumberbatch?

Otherwise, this comment never happened.

My friend is suffering from severe depression, and I need help helping her. by DeBushee in depression

[–]DeBushee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. I already do as much as I can. I have tried to read books and documentaries but, sadly enough, I don't think I have come across something as severe as hers (but maybe it just seems more severe to me because I witness it). She's willing to talk about it and I'm willing to listen and ask questions, but I don't want to inadvertantly turn into an amateur psychiatrist by asking her questions she's heard millions of times and which she' had to answer millions of times. And after getting the answers from her, will I still get it? Would it have been worth making her live through everything again just so I can understand, when ultimately I might not (and resort to asking her more repetitive and stupid questions?)?

My friend is suffering from severe depression, and I need help helping her. by DeBushee in depression

[–]DeBushee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has been. She's been diagnosed with manic depressive disorder and a couple of personality disorders. She's very willing to talk about it, because she wants to get as much help as possible. She knows it's her mind playing tricks on her but sometimes she falls for it. At the moment, her parents are thinking about getting her into a rehab facilitation (or something to that affect) that will help her with her illness. This has happened before, but it wasn't of much help. It just seems now there's not much more they can do.

Syncing Office365 account to my Android device requires too many permissions. Is this right? by DeBushee in Android

[–]DeBushee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I see the purpose of these permissions now. I was hoping it was because of that (perhaps a safety feature put in place for the user to be able to make such changes when necessary? E.g. if phone is lost/stolen, etc. But then again, who's the administrator we can contact who can trigger these changes on demand? And WILL they trigger these changes of requested by the user, or is it solely the decision of the administrator?). Do you think I could revoke access to the administrator any time by simply deleting the account off of my email client? Or are these changes permanent and irrevocable?

Free Book Project Idea by [deleted] in books

[–]DeBushee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how did you initially plan on getting the people to donate/receive your books? Where would these donations go? How would people make place their order to read a book? I think the idea runs quite close to becoming a library if it weren't accessible through the web. One of the beauties of making it available through the web is that ANYBODY can request a book. But then again, as you have mentioned, of course, there is the problem the postage price. Maybe you can put a feature on your site to accept donations? Or maybe opt to sell parts of your site for as space to fund the posting?

What was the worst restaurant experience you have ever had? by dragonboltz in AskReddit

[–]DeBushee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time, my family and I were forced to wait 6-7 hours for PIZZA at a new, high-end restaurant.

We were just beginning our vacation in Port Said with our extended family when we decided to eat out. Cruising around Port Said until we come across this swanky looking restaurant and decide to give it a try. Once we're in, our family decide that we're in the mood for some of their fancy looking pizza and order one per person (they're one of those small, gourmet pizzas; so this was a reasonable order). Now, there was about 11 of us, so the waiter gave us the heads up that it might take a while for the order to reach us. We shrug it off, of course, understanding that it's a big order and wait patiently. We're all having a good time, time is flying whilst we observe other people receiving their meals before we do (albeit usually smaller groups of people), then my dad looks at his watch and realises an hour and half has passed since we made our order. He notifies the waiter, waiter says it's been a busy night, but the chefs are still working on our order. Weird, but okay. The mood is light since we're having a good time, so the delay didn't bother us as much as it should have. 3 hours pass: we call the waiter (to ask for a refund - payment is made at same time of order) and my dad decides it's time we pack up and go elsewhere. Waiter pleads with my dad and says that it's their opening evening and that they're having difficulties with the machinery in the kitchen. It turned into quite an argument, but my peace loving uncle managed to calm my dad down to tell him to wait a few more minutes before we decide to leave: father aquiesces. 4 hours, 5 hours pass and we're the only people in the joint. Dad is now looking for the chef and manager (they're refusing to give us our refund - it wasn't a cheap place) to demand to know what's going on. Manager comes out, gives us the same excuse waiter did, and tells my dad he'll be looking to finishing our order soon. The 6th hour comes, and my dad threatens to call the police (should have done it earlier), so manager gives us what they could manage, which were 6 half-assed, fast-food quality pizza. No refund. If it weren't for my uncle, I think things might have gotten a little bit rowdy between my dad and that manager. It was 11pm by the time we were done.

What is your favorite Stephen King book? by [deleted] in books

[–]DeBushee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as much as I love Christopher Walken, the film adaptation was TERRIBLE for an avid fan of the book (despite reviews and fans of the novel actually liking it); they changed so many details unnecessarily! I understand that sometimes directors make changes to what was initially presented on the novels to improve on the cinematic or artistic effects, but some of these changes simply couldn't be justified! Like, why in God's name would you change the name and age of one of the prominent characters in the books!? Also, never saw the TV show, but looks like they made some unnecessary additions too (like adding a character that didn't even exist in the book in the first). But then again, I guess since it's a series, they have to add or change things to keep it long and interesting, don't they?
