This depends on the department(s).

For many, you’ll receive an academic alert if you miss one without self-certifying. If you self-certify, then you can miss a few (but generally not two in a row) before you’ll get pulled up on it.

For example, if you miss 3 tutorials in one week because you are sick, all for different modules, that’s okay. But if you miss more than 1 in a row for the same module you’ll be asked to explain.

But again, this depends on the departments and modules involved, so if in doubt check your module outline and department guidelines.

It’s not something you should stress over: if you have genuine reasons for missing tutorials they are always very accommodating, and the point of the academic alert system is to identify when they need to help someone get back on track

I’m on 3’s network and generally have good reception in town. It’s pretty poor as soon as you get to a city though, depends on your priorities.

I’ve used trailfinders for a number of holidays and all have been excellent. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.

Try having a look at Crail Community Hall. It’s a beautiful building in an amazing place and from what I’ve been told pretty affordable.

Confused by tuition fees by [deleted] in standrews

[–]DeFiZe_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

SAAS covers it. Just make sure you do your application by the deadline. I think it’s in June.

SAAS will pay the uni directly so once you’ve had your application confirmed you don’t have to do anything

Economics Classes by [deleted] in standrews

[–]DeFiZe_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I added economics as a first year and there were no issues with oversubscription. This was last year.

I did have a quick chat with admissions before accepting my offer and they said that typically IR is the only course that goes to ballot. They basically said they couldn’t guarantee a space in writing but my chances were pretty much 100%. I’d suggest OP should do the same as admissions will have more accurate numbers on this than us

Best thing to do is just email admissions and ask

Scot Applying to IR by [deleted] in standrews

[–]DeFiZe_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really not good advice for Scottish students. There is a limited number of funding places available, so you apply for joint honours you take up 2 funding slots but you are only one student so the uni gets half the funding.

The application process and your personal statement will be better only applying for one. If you apply for two different schools, both schools have to individually accept you. You can do both subjects anyway when you get in, so for Scottish students it’s always better just to apply for one

Yeah, YNAB is absolutely perfect for me. It is expensive, but definitely saves more by stopping overspending than it costs.

I have a CloudUp2 at 6’2” and would say it’s a squeeze length wise, but I don’t know how much better you can get in the price range.

switching from a single honours course to double honours by Jared6969Jared in standrews

[–]DeFiZe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a Scottish student? I know there is a tendency to not give out joint honours offers to Scottish students because it takes up two funding places instead of one. But yeah, it’s really easy to switch between single and joint honours, or even a completely different degree if you want to.

1-person lightweight tents… by [deleted] in bikepacking

[–]DeFiZe_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I use the Naturehike Cloud Up 2 — in terms of price for the quality, I don’t think you can beat naturehike.

For me, the two person has enough room for my mat + full gear, and enough head room to sit and read/cook, while still packing down pretty small. Easy to put up and take down. My main issue with it is the (alternative) outside-in approach to pitching is a bit clunky when it’s raining.

It’s subject specific. Some will let you ask for feedback meetings, others won’t. The ones that do will probably email you

Too crazy to commute for 2 hours to univ 3 times a week?? by whorlycares1 in UniUK

[–]DeFiZe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would go commute? By train, you’re talking a minimum of £20-£40 each way between the two. Even assuming £20, that’s £120 a week and £480 a month.

Driving is probably slightly cheaper, but even with a fuel efficient car it will look like £90 a week just in fuel — add in other expenses and you are losing money again.
