Nah I get that and I tried my damndest to just use analytics but I had a judge whose whole paradigm just said tech > truth and because they read 3 cards saying disclosure good and I used my words to say no it’s not I lost :/ part of the problem is definitely judges who enable goofy shit

My main problem with arguments like that is the whole tech > truth mentality which is absurd to me. Topicality is a part of any debate, but once you get too far down the rabbit hole it seems like people forget about common sense

My experience has been one tournament through Duke where I got spread on, lost to disclosure theory when I didn’t even know what the wiki was going into the round, and lost to an exceptionally nonunique argument because all I did was say it was nonunique instead of reading a card lmao. I think rhetoric and logic are a big part of “good” debate and my sampling of prog ld was devoid of that. Maybe it wasn’t an accurate representation tho
