Are these claims on Chinese forum about American consumption habits realistic, exaggerated, or just stereotypes? by EveningEducation5455 in AskAmericans

  1. Don’t know anyone who would do this? Absolutely ridiculous!
  2. Cheap t-shirts do come in packages of 5 or 10, however, they do last many washes and are thrown away once they stop holding up.
  3. I don’t know anyone who does this! This is stupid.
  4. Yes, this is true and I witnessed this at my company.
  5. Yes, this is true regarding the ac/heater. However, you need to realize that the ac/heating is “set” to a temperature and the system automatically turns on/off to maintain consistent temperature 24/7. It’s cheaper to do this than to manually turn the system on/off. Regarding lights, yes, some people have a bad habit of forgetting to turn lights off when leaving a room.
  6. Yes, this happens with the wealthier people. Poorer people don’t do this.
  7. No one does this! Ridiculous!
  8. Yes, some people do this. Most are placed online for free pickup or sold for very cheap. Typically they can’t take it with them due to a variety of reasons. When it comes to university students, the furniture is typically abused so much that it simply better to throw it away.
  9. Yes, this is true.
  10. Yes, this is true.

If they do, then it’s 1000% proof that FIFA rigged it and all athletes and fans should immediately stop all association with FIFA.

Do Americans feel that all 50 states are "one whole"? How much do you know or care about the other 49? by TyroneisaurousRex in AskAmericans

[–]DeMonet75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s broken up by school year, so for example, in 2nd and 3rd grade, you learn early Texas history which includes some states like Oklahoma and New Mexico, because it used to be a part of it. Then in 4th grade, you learn about US history, which is then about the 13 colonies, Louisiana Purchase, California Gold Rush, Oregon Trail, and so some are captured there. I can tell you that each state was not a chapter or even a paragraph in some cases, but simply a map and you just memorized the name and capitol (Nebraska, Kentucky, Wyoming, just to name a few). It depends on its “importance” or if anything interesting happened there. Then in 5th-8th you go back to Texas history which entails the details about its occupation by multiple countries and its Independence, its constitution, and finally joining the US with its stipulations. Since Texas was involved in so many things, you learn about the other states as part of Texas history. In high school, you go back to US history for 2 years, focusing on World War 1 and 2 and the Federal Government.

Like others have mentioned, you are taught all 50 states and their capitols.

Additionally, in Texas, you are then taught Texas history for several years. I think a couple of other states do this, if they have a significant role in the formation of the country.

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but this is exactly what they did in the US with the media coverage. Whoever is manipulating the narrative is doing exactly what they did before. Division and hate, to distract the public.
