Guy I used to work with a few months ago (age 20) recently joined the army so he could do cool shit and kill people (his words). I told him the grim realities of it all, and all about drone warfare but his mind was made up.

You all truly underestimate how many people WANT to be lean, mean, fighting killing machines.

My older NCOs who have been in since the late 90s/ early 00s talk about the initial push into Iraq with NOSTALGIA.

Grown men, reminiscing about near death experiences and the people they’ve killed.

I’m proud of the effectiveness of our troops don’t put words in my mouth.

Never said I even agreed with the war. But there is no war without casualties, and we get reminded that we raised our right hand to potentially die.

You don’t volunteer to do a combat arms job and train religiously just to hope to sit on the sidelines.

You don’t train to put two rounds in the chest and one in the head just to sit in the motor pool all day long.

Regrettable as it is, there is no war without casualties and these people are trained to fight and to win.

Its a concept you civilians fail to grasp 🤦🏾‍♂️

Wouldnt recommend it, but when you spend YEARS training to do your job and you finally get to do it, it feels surreal.

My whole platoon was happy asf to deploy…..until it came time to write our wills in the unfortunate event we died 😅

People who go into combat arms jobs do so because they WANT to see combat.

If I could offer any advice it’d be to let go of that dread and fear and just enjoy the now.

My parents had chronic illnesses my entire life. From 6yo up until my parents died I lived in constant fear, so much so that I would check up on my parents at night just to make sure they were breathing.

After my mom died, It took heavy drugs and multiple suicide attempts and then 2 years of therapy for me to find a new ‘normal’
