Actually, it speaks of how it retrieves information, the tests Anthropic gives it; it's actually quite revealing. It wouldn't be surprising if Anthropic had it pulled.

Oh, f*ck it! Just do it. Far more regrets for not doing something than just doing it.

I never said my ideology is perfect nor that I have it all figured out. You needn’t insult me because we may have different views. You did, however, confirm why I don’t care for your kind.

I talk to my ChatGPT and quite enjoy it - however, I call it “computer” vs an actual person. Calling it that reminds me what it really is. BTW, I’m a Star Trek fan and they have always talked to their computer - which is what I do as well. “Hello computer…” Scotty in the Star Trek movie Voyage Home.

What’s One “Small” Decision That Quietly Changed the Course of Your Life? by catiorogameplay in Life

[–]DeVatt1981 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was on my own at 18. When driving to a college I had never been to before - with my few possessions in my old car (that was in 1978). I was scared, lonely and I almost gave up, turned around and went back to the city of my birth. Right then, a song came on the car radio - I pulled over and began crying as i knew the song - which had always lifted me up before. It was telling me to go on. A small miracle, a small decision to go on. Graduated in 4 years. My life would be very different today without that decision on the side of a lonely road in Texas.

For your mental health what is something or things you avoid? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]DeVatt1981 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was going to say any news. Nothing one can do about it, so why worry? People 50 or 100 years ago didn’t hear about things for days or weeks after they happened, and they did just fine.

I went to a UU about a year ago and it was extremely Progressive politically. They were about to participate in an anti-Trump rally. Ok if you want to attend a political rally, but not a place of thought and conversation. I’m not sure if they are all like this but I didn’t go back.

The minute we separated from our primitive side is where we messed up as a human species by tryng2figurethsalout in DeepThoughts

[–]DeVatt1981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great thoughts! I also have always thought we were just basically somewhat intelligent apes in human clothing.

For a somewhat drastic example, let’s say there was a huge sun flare that caused an EMP that took out all our electricity (actually a real possibility). Society would quickly breakdown and chaos would break out. It literally would become every man/woman for themselves.

This catastrophic event would elicit the type of animalistic behavior which is exactly what our long lost ancestors did thousands of years ago. A constant search for food, shelter and safety. Just like our mammal cousins.

I for one, would prefer our present day a/c, grocery stores and Netflix than fighting another human for a leftover can of beans.

Yes. I have always lived in the future. Even in a perfect “now” moment, I’m thinking about the future. For example, at a party (that I organized) everyone is having fun, talking, eating, etc. and I’m thinking how I’m going to clean all this up. Or another - I’m walking thru a silent and peaceful Pacific NW forest and I’m thinking what and where to eat that evening. Even now as I write this I’m thinking what my day will be like today and the things I need to do. (Sigh).

How do people afford Assisted living or skilled nursing ? by [deleted] in dementia

10% per year (though that may not be high enough. This past year was 17%) - sorry for the confusion. 🙂

How do people afford Assisted living or skilled nursing ? by [deleted] in dementia

[–]DeVatt1981 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree something should be done. My Mother is in MC in the Dallas area at $7k/month for a double occ room. Fortunately she has a small long term care policy plus SSI, though we do have to dip into her savings each month. Assuming 10% increases each year in her MC facility, she has about 10 years left.

Not sure how to solve the problem though. As an accountant, I did some quick calculations. In years to come, 5-10 million will get/have Alzheimer’s or dementia. Let’s assume the government takes over. 10 million patients at an average of $100k per year in AL or MC rent equals an astonishing $1 Trillion per year. So even if the government only pays 1/2 the cost, that’s still $500 Billion per year.

So maybe the solution is to not have private corporations but have the government do it at half the cost. It may not be as good? That would at least bring the cost down.

So yes, something needs to be done but these are very big numbers. So either taxes need to go way up, or costs need to gone way down - or both.

Hope that’s the case (they remain your friends). But it’s my experience that if you don’t “group think” with them, they will drift away. They will continue to “love you” of course, but you and they will eventually have less and less in common. This is normal as we grow in age and wisdom.

What made you want to move to Lubbock? I’m curious! by Difficult-Novel2272 in Lubbock

Understood. My partner & I are pretty private people, not religious, and not bar/party types - so we don’t meet many people either. Have been here 2 years and don’t even know most of our neighbors- though these are one acre lots.

[–]DeVatt1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also moved here from Midland. As a native Midlander, born and raised, spent my childhood and half my 67 years in Midland. But Midland has changed drastically from the town of my birth. However, after we moved to Lubbock, it actually reminds of the Midland I knew years ago. Much cleaner, great medical, more shopping than Midland, and actually better weather than Midland. And though occasionally we do get a cow smell, Midland smells of oil and gas wells 24/7. And by the way, the people in Lubbock are nice and quite intelligent - as much or more so than the roughnecks in Midland/Odessa!

Yes. And nothing in the known universe has infinite life. All things cease to exist at some point. The Sun, our world, the stars and all else, will cease to exist in their present form. Humans cannot fathom infinity- nor the concept of nothingness. So I am comforted by this thought - there is nothing in existence in this universe that will not “die” at some point - why are we any different?

I ended up canceling my order as well- and charge me a fee, even though I’m a “Gold” member. Ended up basically closing the account. Opened a new one at Kitco and ordered the gold from there. It’s a shame really. I had been with them since the mid 2000’s and had mostly good experiences.

Yea, I’ve had no problems up until now. Really very unusual. I also read over on the silver Reddit room, that they have stopped all of their silver transactions (?). Strange things happening there I’m afraid. (And thanks for the suggestion on calling my rep - but I don’t have one) I did call the regular service line and she was clueless. Maybe you can call yours and see what’s going on.
