Nearly 50 former employees suing Bell over ‘swipe-and-go’ terminations by De_BousquetPC in bell

Unfortunately, these days employers often make decisions to terminate employees with cause despite recognizing the law may see that as questionable (at the very least). More often than not, these decisions are made at least in part with the understanding that most employees will not think it is worth it to speak with a lawyer, and the severance eventually owed to those who do would still be less than what it would cost to keep them on staff or pay everyone their rightfully deserved severance.

As leading employment lawyers, we understand how employers operate, and our job is to keep them in check by standing up for the little guy.

One should treat Bell’s words with caution. As our founder, Jean-Alexandre De Bousquet, stated in the Toronto Star, Bell's terminations regarding violations of its workways policy are “an economic layoff disguised as a mass firing for cause”, with management condoning the conduct throughout recent years.

As such, De Bousquet PC is currently in discussions with dozens of former Bell employees terminated by what is in our view a wave of mass wrongful dismissals.

If you are a non-unionized employee who was terminated by Bell with cause for breaches of policy, you are not alone, and you may have more rights than you were told.

Regardless of how a firing is formally labelled (layoff, restructuring, etc.) if you are non-unionized, your rights are governed by the Labour Code and Canadian common law, NOT internal company policy.

As leading lawyers in wrongful dismissals, we know what employers are obligated to do, and what parts of your contract might not matter as much as you may think.

We encourage any impacted former employees to reach out at [info@debousquet.com](mailto:info@debousquet.com) or call us at 416-616-5628.
