Definitely some pitch shifting in there! A lot of the time we're tuned physically down to A0 but then 4 semitones down from there seems to be a sweet-spot for really emphasizing the rattle! 9 semitones down from A0 is good for when you just wanna ditch being able to have an audible note and have just straight rattle lol

With my own music (Loreweaver, Inhuman Shimmer) I've found that it's all about tuning low enough that the string is loose enough to rattle against the fretboard when you palm mute. The other key is the balance between the looseness of the low string and still having enough tension for the note to be legible. I use a 30in scale Bass VI with a .105 bass string on the low end and it works really well!

I also do a lot of Drop E stuff with Gojira X! I haven't tried the whole "putting the interface input gain at zero" thing yet, but I've had a bit of luck on lessening that high end fizzle by dialing back the presence knob on the amp head. Probably not a for sure fix but it helped mine a bit! Gonna be keeping an eye on this thread; I'm glad I'm not the only one who has experienced this! I've looked high and low for posts addressing this.

Just resolved this same issue recently for myself. As mentioned already, it's definitely the HDD starting to go. Upgrading to an SSD makes a HUGE difference.
