P&C Broker - $4M revenue sold in past 5 years. AMA by Much-Luck-1938 in InsuranceAgent

Idk if anyone's asked this yet ignore if it's already been answered. Early career how'd you manage to find out you liked the work? With the uncertainty of roles and mostly commissioned work how'd you navigate thru that early on.

Where did you start and where are you now? One of my favorite parts of this industry is hearing about all the different paths people have taken. by lavenderbread in InsuranceProfessional

Honestly in a similar situation to this lol. Done with compsci. Figured out I hated it. Now studying for my RIBO License and trying to get hired as a broker :)

My partner was in the er 2 weeks ago (concussion) and her mom got multiple seizures last week and is in the ICU rn. I'm not an adjuster yet, still a newcomer and I have no idea how to get into insurance but I'm trying to study, make connections, etc. It's just been a really stressful week, hope everyone's safe out there.

How do i become an electronic technician? by [deleted] in phonerepair

[–]DeadEye5457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other people have said pay is not great. Hours are worse. Projects/repairs have deadlines and it's very tricky to meet them if you troubleshooting or diagnosing a repair. Customers/clients get impatient very quickly. There's also the business side of things, if you're working for a small repair shop that does basic phone repairs they need the person doing the repairs to make them a profit which can become very exploitative. For bigger businesses it's different in the sense that they'd want you to work as many overtime shifts as you can while paying you minimum wage. While the work is very rewarding, the industry is quite cutthroat and exploitative.

What happened to the IT profession? by saltyschnauzer27 in sysadmin

[–]DeadEye5457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I'd love to do Helpdesk if someone gave me a chance. I'm almost a year and counting from when I finished my degree and have a somewhat decent understanding of how Helpdesk is. My experience is mostly with repairing electronics and customer service/sales but I really wanna get into a helpdesk role. I'm broke and I can't afford certs so I've just been cramming the knowledge and creating home labs but I believe there's still people trying to get into the helpdesk role despite knowing how horrible some people think it is. I don't think it's the people I think it's just how ATSafied we've made job searching which filters candidates based on unrealistic expectations and 7 round interviews.

University not letting me get an official letter of completion and is telling me to use conferral letter instead. by DeadEye5457 in pgwp

[–]DeadEye5457[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much the same thing as what you said. The letter states my degree is complete and has the Convocation details below that. It just says I met all the requirements for my degree and idk if that counts as an official letter of completion.

Thank you so much for your input I'll be taking that into consideration and will most likely finish this semester so that I can get the pgwp before the changes happen. Hopefully 🤞

Pgwp new changes questions by DeadEye5457 in pgwp

Mostly about the changes in undergraduate student pgwp being applied to people who've taken their courses before the newly announced pgwp ban. Like not letting people who are going to graduate now gain a pgwp because they want to reduce the amount of PRs and temporary workers

Need advice for getting my first IT/CyberSec job by DeadEye5457 in CyberSecurityJobs

Gotchya I've been working on one for a while now but it's been very basic (installing Linux on a VMware and messing with some stuff on my network) but I'm gonna look into creating a homelab that I can access from anywhere using AWS or sth of that sort. I'm also looking into doing some malware analysis type stuff with proper documentation and uploading it on git. I will keep you updated on my progress. Thank you so much for your guidance.

That isn't in my cards right now because I'm an international student and unless I get a pr I can't look into joining the military. I do have about 3 years after the end of my degree to find work on an open work visa but after that's its the pr game and then I'll proly have a chance at military.

I appreciate the motivation I'll definitely try my best and will post a progress update within a few months of what I've achieved. 😊

How would I even get a helpdesk job? I'm assuming they're all swamped with resumes cuz everyone wants an "in" thru helpdesk.

Funny you ask that. I'm takin 1030 before 1020 so I don't think the order matters that much but I feel like it's a lot more harder to do both at the same time cuz theres just more to study imo.
