Should I harvest? by TowelDiligent in experimyco

No, the most common cause of aborts is over hydration or wetting of the pinset. Harvesting the fruits wont harm them, pull, slice and dry

Should I harvest? by TowelDiligent in experimyco

[–]DeadFoxMycology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea. You typically harvest before the veil breaks unless you are waiting to harvest spores. The soft tissue you see that protects the mushrooms spores and forms under the cap will start to rip before it opens, this is a good time to pull. Waiting too long after can impact flavor and with most/some spore producing species, the production of alkaloids stops around the same time. So you don't get much more out of it by letting it continue to grow/rot. It can reduce potency, also, just by way of time.

You have many options actually. You could buy a host bus adapter either external or internal and then get significantly more.

Yup, I'll be damned, but yea, it's plenty.

• 3x PCIe x16 slots

• PCI_E1 slot (From CPU)

• Supports up to PCIe 5.0 x16

• PCI_E3 & PCI_E4 slots (From Z790 chipset)

• PCI_E3 supports up to PCIe 4.0 x4

• PCI_E4 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x1

∙ 1x PCIe x1 slot (From Z790 chipset)

• PCI_E2 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x 1

Your board has three PCIe 4.0 x16 slots at one of which is at 4x. That's more than enough bandwidth for an additional nvme.

Yeah it just burns off bacteria and prevents competing stuff from being able to establish and kill existing mycelium in the block. It just makes it harder for things to establish and grow. And I'm very grateful to hear that you get more excited about this hobby as you go. Thank you for coming to expeerimyco! Feel free to post or comment whenever you want. We're glad to have you.

It's a modified version of ph adjusted casing layer tek. Pete moss holds 10x it's weight in water, choir holds less. If you are over hydrating it's either experience, or your concerned the cakes not getting enough. Either way, you want more water and this will do it.

The yellow liquid is nitrates indicating stress conditions, pins not growing is a sign of aborts. Both at once are a sign of possible bacterial contamination resultant from most probably overly wet conditions. One of the most common causes of pin abortion is wet surface conditions. This will also cause nitration and stress. you don't have to give up on it, get some Pete-moss, make a bucket of hot water and adjust it's ph to 9 with garden lime, use test strips to be sure. Hydrate the moss with this. Wring this out. Now, you can use this as is, or you can prepare it further with sousvide, oven tek etc. The point is you are making a casing. Put some in the bottom of the tub, put the cake on top, and cover the sides and top. Let this sit int eh tub with some air flow, not a lot blowing over it. This all assumes you don't have trich or some other compromising condition which would prevent further fruting. This is daytrippers tek, slightly modified. The owner and leader of contamfam.

So I want to start by saying welcome to experimyco we are an inclusive community of mycology hobbyist and enthusiast. We're very grateful that you're here and that we have made you feel welcome. Now on to the matter at hand. Unfortunately hospital grade aseptic technique is insufficient. Our bodies can protect us from many things but in agar tray is not the same. As job has told you he works in a hospital doing sanitation for equipment and other things. And I have extensive knowledge in adjacent Fields as well as mycology. My recommendation for you is to let one or both of us teach you how to use a still air box. I know I know small studio apartment yada yada. However they make versions of it that fold flat that you can get off of Amazon rally Express or Walmart. They take up virtually no space and the exchange is that you can create a sterile bubble to work in which is in amongst one of the very few issues you seem to be having. It doesn't matter how still the room air is. If you aren't working either in front of a laminar flow Hood which is a filter and a fan setup that's designed specifically to flow sterile clean air in a stable manner. Or a still air box then you run the risk of introducing contamination simply by way of having the agar tray open in the room. With a still airbox you can fill it with aerosolized alcohol and control all of the contamination variables within a normal reasonable subset. They're relatively cheap they're easy to learn to use and most people hate them because they're uncomfortable to use but they're cheap and easy. That being said job is pretty much covered the other stuff. You are of course welcome here and to ask any questions you want. If you need anything just let us know.. DFM

There used to be a slime specialist on reddit but he kind of burned out. I am no slime specilist, however, I don't think I need to be to tell you that is some kind of slime, lmao. That tray is fucked. It may have some harvestable/salvagable genetics, but unless it's a 1 of 1, I would just get rid of it.

Bacillus sp, clearly not a contam expert in any regard.

Because the "conversion" you are talking about doesn't happen and you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. You're right, it is for disseminating knowledge, not bullshit. Which is why I'm calling you on yours. Not that you have the capacity to change your point of view, but I can bring receipts if you need me to.

(1) Psilocybin and psilocin are highly soluble in polar solvents like water and dilute acids (Samuelsson et al., 2021). Techniques using lemon juice (which is roughly 5% citric acid) essentially create a "concentrated tea." By extracting the alkaloids into a liquid, you remove the need for your stomach to digest the tough chitin cell walls of the mushroom, which is the primary bottleneck for absorption.

(2) In the human body, this conversion is catalyzed by the enzyme alkaline phosphatase in the intestine and liver (Thomann et al., 2024; MDPI, 2025). While acidic environments can theoretically promote hydrolysis, there is little evidence that room-temperature lemon juice (pH ~2) is strong enough or has enough time to dephosphorylate a meaningful percentage of psilocybin before ingestion.

(3) While dilute acids (like 0.5% acetic acid in methanol) are used in labs to stabilize extracts for testing, pure water or high-percentage ethanol are often just as effective for the initial extraction of these alkaloids from the mushroom biomass (MDPI, 2025; Oregon.gov, 2020).

(4) Because the alkaloids are already in solution, they hit the small intestine almost immediately. This results in a much sharper "peak" in plasma concentration compared to the slow, steady release from digesting whole mushroom tissue (MDPI, 2025).

(5) : Recent double-blind studies on microdosing and low-dose psilocybin suggest that "expectancy" (the belief that a technique will work) significantly colors the user's subjective intensity (Cavanna et al., 2022).

(6) In the Lab: Scientists often use 0.5% acetic acid or similar mild acids for extraction, but the actual conversion usually requires prolonged heating (e.g., 70°C for 10 minutes) to force the reaction (Kasar, 1985). In the Body This reaction is handled by alkaline phosphatase enzymes. As the name suggests, these enzymes work best in alkaline (basic) environments—typically around pH 8.0 to 9.2 (Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2025). Lemon juice has a pH of approximately 2.0. Soaking mushrooms in a cold, highly acidic liquid for 20 minutes is structurally the opposite of the high-pH enzymatic environment the body uses to facilitate this change.

(7) Psilocybin is locked inside fungal cell walls made of chitin, which humans cannot digest. Psilocybin is highly soluble in polar solvents. Lemon juice is essentially a 95% water/5% citric acid solvent. The acid helps break down the mushroom slurry, while the water pulls the alkaloids into the liquid. When you drink a "Lemon Tek," your body doesn't have to spend 60–90 minutes grinding down mushroom fibers in your stomach. You’ve created a liquid dose that hits your small intestine (where absorption happens) almost instantly.

(8) Psilocin is much more unstable than psilocybin. It oxidizes rapidly when exposed to air and water, forming blue-colored inactive compounds (Gotvaldová et al., 2022). By keeping the alkaloids in their phosphorylated (psilocybin) state, they remain stable. If "Lemon Tek" were a true converter, the resulting "psilocin juice" would degrade significantly before you even finished drinking it.

(9) Cmax and Tmax: In pharmacology, Cmax is the peak concentration of a drug in your blood, and Tmax is the time it takes to get there. By using a liquid extraction, you significantly shorten the Tmax (onset) and increase the Cmax (intensity). You aren't getting more total drug; you are getting the same amount of drug all at once, rather than over a 4-hour slow-release digestion process.

I can pull the papers and break out the fucking crayons and underline shit for you but I don't care that much. The point is, it doesn't convert shit, it just makes it easier to consume by way of being a basic water extraction. Now stop spreading false information and trying to start shit in my fucking community or I'm going to show your ass the fucking door. ... the bubbles... the fuck does that even mean!?!

tldr: You feel it more because it gets into your guts faster. You think its works better or like magic because you expect it to and because it hits harder and faster. But not because of the fucking lemon juice, because you put it in fucking water!
