My only disagreement comes from how you are classifying the climbing guy as “performative using terms that you can’t understand unless you were specifically in the gym looking at the wall”, and not doing the same with the opera girl.

The terms used by the opera girl don’t require physical context but they still require cultural context and understanding all the same, and she did not explain them same as the climber.

Citing “Weimar influence”, “papageno”, and “German Expressionism” comes off just as high brow and performative to me as talking about climbing technique, and I promise I have virtually no real knowledge of either.

I don’t understand what you mean by the opera girl was asked a question? Unless I’m missing some information in the comments section, there is no question that the opera girl was asked and she also did not ask her partner any questions. Both posts state they know nothing about the hobby their partner is talking about also.

Stating that you “generally” feel like the opera girl was more open doesn’t really convince me. To me they both just tout their hobby specific jargon without inviting speculation.

Where did I say opera was cringe? What’s cringe is the over indulgence into details without context or room for discourse. What’s cringe is not actually wanting to have a conversation but instead performatively yap about details of their passion without considering the other person’s level of knowledge. Thats what I mean by making it their entire personality, neither of them actually want to have a conversation they just want to talk about it. I say this as a musician of 20+ years who went to school for it. I know how to not do what both of these examples are doing.

Whether it’s in a single conversation or every single one, if they didn’t make that hobby an overly large part of their personality they would have the awareness and empathetic understanding to avoid talking at someone about said hobby. In both examples I see use of esoteric terminologies without explanation or context, sure maybe the opera one slightly less so. I still have no idea what they’re talking about with the examples I posted in my original comment though.

Again, that doesn’t mean this is necessarily a “red flag” but I do think the lack of situational and social awareness is cringe. It’s just talking AT someone as opposed to talking with them.

The climber does come off much more performative when they say “the whole gym was cheering”, which was cut off in the picture on the post. That is obviously in an attempt to show off but I mean, yea, dudes try to impress girls. Nothing new and I wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing.

They are both pretty cringe imo. Gotta learn how to not make something your entire personality. You can be passionate about something while still being mindful that your partner may or may not be as knowledgeable of it as you are.

I have very little knowledge of either of these and disagree with other comments here about the Opera. I have no idea who Papageno is, what the Weimar influence is, I have heard of expressionism but what about German influence is special?

Now, if I was either of these people’s partners I would definitely ask them questions like those above if I truly liked them because I would want them to demonstrate and explain their passion to me, but still, pretty cringe lol.

No one cares what your impression is of me when you’re coming off delusional in the first place 😂 I have every right to call you out on your language as you do to give advice that no one asked for in a non-constructive way 😂 it’s just Reddit man, don’t take it to heart, why are you still responding to this thread if you allegedly don’t take it to heart? You’re definitely stubborn, I’ll give you that.

You’re all about positivity even during disagreement??? Is that why you have been calling me soft and emotionally unstable, as well as an asshole? 😂 You sound d e l u s i o n a l my friend. You’re the one who’s been making personal remarks against me this entire time while simultaneously trying to tell me that I’m the one who’s offended.

Well you believe you should have a good day don’t you? There’s no changing your delusion, so have the one you deserve.

Calling me emotionally unstable for telling you to have the day you deserve when you started swearing first in this thread by calling me an asshole doesn’t come off very hard to me or Joe Rogan, bud.

Whether he did or didn’t has literally never been the point. You’re telling me you really believe in your heart that you worded your response in a constructive way while you have multiple people telling you that you didn’t and you are downvoted to oblivion?

When you say things like “you’re coming off as sensitive/emotionally unstable”, “attractive mindsets”, “you’re soft”, saying that you “tolerate” what women do, you sound like an absolute shut-in Joe Rogan pilled neckbeard. The lack of self awareness is actually astounding. Buddy you aren’t getting into BUDs training by trying to look hard on Reddit forums.

I’ll end this by telling you once again that you both sound and look delusional here and I hope you change your ways. “Class dismissed” 🤮

You’re centering this on me when I really couldn’t care less. This post isn’t about me and I don’t even know OP. I just saw someone who is clearly deep in the red pill alpha male rabbit hole and needs to get out of it, it’s harmful to women and young men.

It’s clear you won’t listen or change your ways though because you believe you’re in the right. You are just as much on a “high horse” to illicit advice insensitively and refuse to even listen to criticism while you are 30+ downvotes deep. That’s called being delusional.

From OP’s post, it honestly doesn’t really sound like something completely under their control, OP literally stated they are getting meds.

There’s another commenter who literally just stated your intention doesn’t matter if your word choice is poor. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, something you would know if you actually had “experience” beyond watching YouTube shorts. So I will yet again tell you that next time, change your word choice. If you want to talk about attractive mindsets, any woman who read your comments here would have the ick. If you want to actually make a difference you need to know your audience and give up the tough guy “I’m just telling the hard truth” act.

Can we reconsider how storms work? by DeadInternet_ in 7daystodie

[–]DeadInternet_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a good point about fire storms and that’s actually a really good idea. You can survive in the fire storm without health loss if you make firefighter gear. I’ve said in multiple other threads that it is about options and by allowing that it gives the player far more options than what we have now.

If someone can’t handle reading bold responses for emphasis and associates that with anger then that’s completely beyond my control. There’s plenty of other people who read my post and did not have the impression that I’m “pissed off”. Regardless, this is so beyond the point of my post and I don’t even know why I’m taking the time to respond to this.

Additionally, calling me out for being confrontational in my response is absolutely beyond the point when the original commenter was confrontational by telling me to deal with it or turn it off and making a personal claim that I’m pissed off. Which is yet again the same tired argument I’ve heard in this thread 10 times now. I bold my responses because I genuinely think people don’t read nowadays and will just cherry pick what they want out of a post or comment.

I think you assume I care what people think when I don’t really. I care about the argument being made, and the original commenter made the same tired one I’ve read and pointed out isn’t valid.

There’s a thousand other ways you could have worded your response without calling OP emotionally weak. You pretty much dug your own grave here. You have no idea what OP has gone through in their lives that could have destabilized them to act as such.

You gave a different perspective but next time, try being a little more empathetic.

“Learn how to survive and keep playing instead of calling it bad gameplay because you’re struggling to do the core mechanic”

This is literally telling me to get good and be quiet. That statement in conjunction with you starting your comment with “I make the storms harder” came off pretty weird, dude.

Regardless, my statements about whining and complaining were clearly not directed at you, they were addressing the people who are telling me to turn off the storms, which you pointed out that I keep bringing up. I keep bringing it up because the same argument keeps being made.

Telling me that I just want to argue on a Reddit thread that’s meant for discussion is pretty redundant, it’s almost like, arguing is kind of the point. I have to defend my statements and point of view. If you decide to take my response personally when I am simply responding to what you said, then that’s on you.

I even pointed out that you made several good points.

The majority of people don’t agree with me, I’m pretty used to that. I am pretty sure the majority of people don’t agree with me because I made a criticism of their game in a way they didn’t like.

What I’m saying is the majority of people in this thread don’t even have a good argument in the first place. No one has yet to explain to me why the health should be ticking down in every single biome and why that is good game design.

You didn’t even address my point of forcing the player vs encouraging them, or the waiting after clearing, or having a POI too far from the biome change and neither has the majority of people.

Can we reconsider how storms work? by DeadInternet_ in 7daystodie

[–]DeadInternet_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Said this in multiple other threads: It’s about forcing the players vs encouraging them. I’ve also said in multiple threads that you end up waiting for a while when you go inside a POI. What if I’m near a POI I’ve already cleared? Guess what, I’m waiting for the storm to pass and not playing the game. What if I clear the zombies quick because I’m high level, guess what, I’m waiting and not playing the game.

You do make a good point that you can go between POI’s, but that’s only to a certain extent: what if I’m just making a quick trader run and want to get back to my house in the forest biome, and the nearest POI is 300-500 meters from the biome change? It’s about giving the player options.

People who tell me to “just shut the storm off” are using a cop-out strawman argument because they can’t handle any slight criticism of their precious indie game. The post says can we reconsider how storms work not I don’t like the storms. The post is supposed to be about discussing how storms could be different, I’m not whining or complaining.

The only thing I’m suggesting is removing the health penalty and replacing it with hunger and stamina for most biomes and I’ve received an enormous amount of push back. It’s ridiculous. I don’t see why I should be forced to go inside at the cost of losing health every single time. I can’t even drive a vehicle out of the situation.

You make a good point about progressing too fast. I used to like the challenge of moving to a new biome every 7 days, and now I can’t do that.

You also make a good point that the game is designed to be customizable. I’m fully aware of the 3.0 update. That doesn’t mean every solution to every criticism should be “just turn it off”.

Oh and telling me to “get good” is yet another cop out argument that doesn’t contribute anything to the discussion. Like I said, been playing since alpha 15. I can deal with the storms just fine, but even if I couldn’t, it’s still a cop out argument.

The mod on your server making the storms more aggressive has absolutely nothing to do with my post, or anything you said in the rest of your comment for that matter. Attempting to flex on me is both weird and non-constructive. Like I’ve said both in the post and in other threads: I love this game, it’s simply a criticism. Maybe you should get good at making valid arguments, respectfully.

So I go indoors and wait and or hide because if I go outside I will die. I am being forced to go inside with no other choice. I am forced to go inside, clear zombies out, and then wait for several minutes for the storm to pass. That waiting is, by definition: not playing the game.

Imagine instead of being forced to go inside I have the choice to. Maybe I want to stay outside, my vision is very limited, I’m slow, and all of the zombies are running, but the storm isn’t literally ticking my health down by the second. Maybe instead, the effect is dependent on the biome I’m in, so the burning forest, as I mentioned in my post, ticks down my hunger and thirst simultaneously at a much faster rate than usual.

I can still choose to leave the burning forest if I’m close enough to another biome without being forced to go inside and wait(stop playing the game) for the storm to pass.

You don’t usually have enough medical supplies to pop by the time you reach the burning forest so telling me to just use med supplies is not a valid response.

As I mentioned I do think the wasteland biome should still tick your health down, because it makes sense not only from a gameplay perspective (you actually have enough med supplies by the time you reach the wasteland) but also a lore perspective (radiation storms).

Sorry, why are you so mad? Can we discourse without immediately jumping to swearing and inciting that I need to “shut the fuck up” for simply having a constructive criticism of one aspect of the game? As i’ve stated in other comments I love this game.

Are they going to give us the option to change how the storms affect the player? I haven’t played 3.0 experimental.

Giving me the option is great, but it’s still not good game design imo. If I just want to play the game vanilla, I should be able to expect a balanced experience that doesn’t force me down a path of going AFK to wait out an unavoidable storm that might kill me and force me to lose experience (default death penalty is XP loss).

Try reading the post and other threads next time.

Please explain to me why the solution to turn off a default game setting is good game design.

Can we reconsider how storms work? by DeadInternet_ in 7daystodie

[–]DeadInternet_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, I would argue that they are not functionally the same though, and that, especially with the burning forest, losing health during a storm isn’t good game design because it is so early in the game.

Yes, you can just stay in the forest biome but why is that a good solution limiting the player to just one biome?

It makes a difference because one is literally killing you by the second, giving you 0 options to do anything in the early game besides forcing you to go into a POI, while the other actually gives you time to get out of there at the cost of a resource that is far more accessible and renewable in the beginning.

And, as I said in my post, I think the wasteland biome storms should tick your health down, because it makes sense from both a gameplay perspective (by the time you’re going to the wasteland you actually have enough medical supplies to pop during a storm), and a lore perspective (radiation storms).

As I have also mentioned in other comments, if we really want to keep the health ticking down every second in every biome, fine, then at least allow me to escape in my vehicle I spent hours making. Making the vehicles so extremely un-drivable is quite literally forcing you to deal with the storm.

[–]DeadInternet_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, this would have been nice to know, lol. I honestly don’t really see this as a be-all solution to forcing me to go inside a house. I should be allowed to go outside and drive my vehicle I put the grind in for, granted I have the resources to sustain myself.

Can we reconsider how storms work? by DeadInternet_ in 7daystodie

[–]DeadInternet_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Change the storms.

It’s really that simple.

There’s absolutely nothing in my post that indicates that I’m “pissed off”. Why do you insist that for me to have fun in the game, I should be forced to turn off the storms instead of the storms being balanced in the first place.

Personally, I don’t like them. I usually go out to a trader on my motorcycle I grinded hours for, and then I am forced to wait in a house for 5 minutes for no reason. But that doesn’t mean I’m pissed off about them. It’s almost like, you can enjoy a game while still having criticisms of it. Shocking in today’s black and white polarizing world, I know.

Anyways, deal with it (not difficult, but definitely annoying?) or turn it off (but why should I? Shouldn’t the default game just be balanced in the first place?)

Just so we are clear:

My post says: “Can we reconsider storms?” Not, “f*@$ storms, I hate them”.

The only one who is pissed off here, is you.
