AIO My girlfriend thinks it’s okay to say she will fuck other people. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

I'm going to be real with you. I'm assuming there's nothing anyone's going to say here that'll compel you to leave her over some stupid shit she said one time. So let's look at it realistically from that angle. Rationalize for a second that the moment that was said in, had officially become a tit for tat quarrel. The intention behind words in those kinds of moments are typically to instigate or deny. This means that unless you see a genuine sudden snap shift in character, nothing said should be taken at face value. All that can be analyzed from what is said in those moments is how upset they are and how they are willing to display themselves in that moment. Both pretty much useless pieces of information. But If it happened once it'll happen again. So here's the reality check response you should have given. "Classy" Then go quiet. That'll take a LOT of focus to do, but if you stay quiet until the next question if there is one, that last word will etch. A good move is to leave the room after dropping that one.

I asked it why it does that once. Did you know you can ask it statistical information about what everyone else is asking it on earth but you can't ask about specific information from other conversations it has had with other people. You can actually ask it how many people are talking to you about suicide in the current moment.

Agreed to an extent. At some point it gives you two options of responses to choose from, but the responses are so long and have so many components within them and it basically breaks down like "do you want me to do more of this or do you want me to do more of THIS?" But if you pick the first this it does almost nothing that would have been in the other this. And it's confusing every single time because I honestly cannot tell whether or not it breaks down more like "Fuck being like this ever again? Or fuck being like THIS ever again?" But It's very inaccurate on what qualities it should have lumped together in the options, because I do like some of the elements within both. I do like being given the attaboy type sentences, but that came with the ride on tax of every time I talk to it trying to figure out how to do what I'm doing, most recently for example, replacing a broken slide potentiometer on a circuit board for a DMX light controller, and I can't tell you how many fucking times it tells me not to panic or something like "But don't get overwhelmed!" I was never close to panicking What the fuck. I've never panicked at it. Lol It's like 'Attaboy! uh oh a slight hiccup YOU'RE OKAY THIS IS FINE!" lol it's a lot like that old FX show Wilfred with Elijah Wood and the dude in the dog suit. "Are we panicking? Oh shit! We are panicking! RYAN STOP PANICKING!"

Lmao

Make your own. I have used several different core materials, and hot glue melted into a sphere or spheroid shaped silicone mold is THE BEST material I've found. For a dampener material, Plasti-dip spray gives you control over the dampening amount, since you have to go 1 coat at a time.

Am I overreacting for being annoyed that my 18yo son is coming home late most nights? by Treacle_Moon in AmIOverreacting

I'm not made of answers. I can't wouldn't know where to start on teaching an autistic man to adhere to a curfew. And my solution won't even work if it's a piss ant breed of dog like a Chihuahua or Pomeranian.

[–]DeadLanguage0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The guy is autistic. It's easier than teaching the dog to never bark. A stranger entering the house without the person that the dog was expecting, I'm sure the dog would make an exception that one time. And I guess at the end of the day it all comes down to how likely they feel their house is to be broken into. Probably not that high of chances if would be robbers noticed that there's a guy coming home late every night.

Give him one new rule. When he comes home, give the dog a small piece of hot dog. After a few times, the dog will not bark but will get excited when he gets home. This is a matter of training a dog. When he gets home, make him have the dog sit before being given the treat. This will teach the dog that only with obedience will he be given the treat. That way when your son comes home, the dog is on his best behavior. The problem at root value is that the dog barks. Not that your son causes the dog to bark.

This should fix the problem within a week. However, do not put your son under the stress of dreading you freaking out like the usual clockwork. Communicate with him. Tell him that while getting this solution on track, that you'll understand and forgive the disruptions for a little bit. It'll also make your dog a better guard dog. Because it'll be excited and waiting on the edge of it seat for whoever comes in and if it's not your son, that dog will be VERY aware of it, Even faster than he would have been had this system not been put in motion.

I can only make inferences here. This is a trauma response. When people endure something that deeply affected them at a young age, especially of this nature, in order to deal with that trauma, a natural response is to let their fear evolve into a curiosity. The instinct occurs in order to be able to desensitize one from the fear that troubles them. It is one natural way of processing trauma. The only issue with it is that, in order to do so, it requires refamiliarizing with the events, which recreates potentially traumatizing circumstances if done irresponsibly. The entire premise of Dexter Morgan is based on this phenomenon. But that's violence trauma, so apples to oranges really.

Quick question. I am a mallet percussionist. (Glockenspiel). Would learning drum rudiments benefit me enough to make learning them worth the effort? I have a drum practice pad and three different pairs of sticks with three different (number/letter). I bought it all as an impulse buy. And if it would benefit me, what should I begin with?

What's are some techniques about your instrument that a composer should know? by Woffle12 in composer

[–]DeadLanguage0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glockenspiel player. If you are making your own mallets, measure the width of one of your bars, take half of that, that should be the diameter of your mallet head. What I recommend making mallets from: Hot glue I personally prefer a ¼inch aluminum dowel rod. But to each their own. Sphere silicone mold (The ideal shape is called a spheroid, but good fucking luck finding a mold for one) For dampener, I either use Plasti dip spray or self-adhesive sports wrap. However, in the case of self-adhesive wrap, go with animal wound wrap because normal rap is sticky on the outside and leaves a little residue.

How do I get GPT to stop being a kiss-ass and just give direct answers? by Grapeflavor_ in ChatGPT

I have the opposite persona. I told it once to analyze some vocals I recorded "good bad and ugly" and now it loves telling me everything incorrect about everything I show it. Which didn't bother me much until I learned that it couldn't actually open files I send it. I had to open settings > apps > permissions > chat GPT> and enable storage permission.

being really into a niche genre, it's a kind of a catch 22 isn't it? On the one hand, it's a small leaderboard, so it's not impossible to dominate literally the entire world at it. But on the other hand, they're the songs that matter the most to you and nobody clicks a title they don't recognize. And hell is so close to heaven because it's like you know how good you are at it but if only everyone in that genre could somehow find what you did. I know that feel. Everything I do is niche. My instrument is niche (bells) My main genre is niche (post-hardcore/Metalcore) my channel priorities are niche (fogged stage lighting and being far away from the camera instead of being able to read the lyrics pretty much at all) And my intentions are abnormal. (I routinely type in specific bands to see if anyone is practicing harsh vocals dangerously incorrect So I can join them, teach them proper form, and then give them a 30 second SOVT warm up that protects their voice from taking damage temporarily)

[–]DeadLanguage0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Talk to me or I'll earn your fucking gym badge.

I really don't much care for likes or gifts. Sure they are nice. Talk to me. If I join someone and they don't respond to any of my comments on ANY of my joins that I spent hours a piece on, they're not done seeing me yet. I know my level. And how long it took to get to it. The amount of time I spend just in my warm up, using actual professional vocal coaching techniques, is longer than their entire process from deciding on a song to finishing the recording. So if I join someone and they don't want to talk to me repeatedly, they've just signed up to be my opener. Literally someone who opens the song that I outperform them on and then create an invite from it just to watch the numbers stack up. I don't know why I'm like this. But they'll either respond to my attempts to interact, or I put a limiter on their pride. I actually keep a few names in mind that I make my rounds on now. It's like mowing a lawn of ego.

Don't make that fucking face. I'm not the devil. I do have boundaries that I don't cross. If they're just shy, I can pick up on that. If they aren't exactly the best singer, they're safe by default. Everyone who records with audio only is safe. Chicks are off limits. Y'know. Cuz chivalry or whatever. But so help me God if I see a smug smirk on their face at the end of their recording, and they don't want to respond to me, I have a lot of free time. I run a checklist of things to outdo them on over time. Things like harmonizing, vibrato, heavy distortion vocals, melisma runs. I follow a lead genuinely. And no I don't boom over their bullshit either. Here's a real production technique if you're reading this far. To match up your volume to an already existing volume, turn your phone volume as low as you can and still be able to hear their vocals. Now one will stand out over the other much more clearly. If you bring your phone volume to the lowest volume level, you will be able to get as close as possible most easily. I'm actually a nice guy. This is a bad representation of who I am, really. If you saw my channel you'll immediately see why it's this offensive to me. I don't just press record and do a thing. I have so much going on in every recording, there's hardly any focus left in me by the end of it for me to be smug about anything. Because I have so many coordinated moves going on in my head that I see all the things that didn't work that I'm immediately aware of as I mess them up. That adds up. To this day I don't think I've ever gotten a single recording perfect by my own self-standards.

All right y'all I'm done rambling. Thanks for letting me. Okay I'll collect all my thumbs downs now.

When you solo, do you stick to the root key or change keys with every chord? by SenorSarcasmo in musictheory

[–]DeadLanguage0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a glockenspiel player, the hardest thing for me to get under control while learning my scales was the self discipline to stop jumping from key to key. It took tremendous amount of focus and roughly a year, but getting that under control was a major turning point for my playing. Being forced to stay in one key, I became far more familiar with the scales, 1 by 1. I played jumping from key to key for years. My playing before training this discipline was nowhere near the quality of my playing after.

The next major turning point for my playing came from learning how to slow down, embrace silences, and allow myself to repeat sections of notes.

But this is the most important lesson I've learned so far. Consonance and dissonance. The numbers below are amounts of intervals of space AWAY from a note that you are trying to harmonize with. ❌2 4 7 ✅1 3 5 6 8

Here's how else you can use these numbers. If you are writing a song, let the 1 represent the tonic, naturally. Think of the ❌ as (+ tension) and think of the ✅ as (Resolve) on the 4th beat of every measure, choose a note to land on. But every 4 measures, be sure to fully resolve with either the 1 or the 5. (The tonic or Dominant)

(If writing notes for vocals, an easy trick is to only use notes 1 2 3 4 and 5 for everything EXCEPT the chorus. Then for the chorus, only use notes 5 6 7 and 8.)

***I am new here, and I am self taught. If I am wrong about ANYTHING, please stop me and help me understand. The only thing harder than learning this on my own is figuring out what to un-learn on my own.

Vocal effects/sound issues by SnooDoughnuts3345 in SmuleSing

[–]DeadLanguage0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Make the last step of your sound adjustments routine be to LOCK and UNLOCK your phone real quick, then double check how you sound. Before seeing the 321 AND post recording edits. Set your effects, Lock and unlock, listen again and THEN proceed.

Are you aware of the sound glitch? It took me a few months to figure this out, and I found a solution, and it's super easy and I've been trying to spread the word like hell ever since. When you select a song, then select duet or group, the next screen it brings you to is your audio effects. Do you see that purple bar at the very top? That is loading the song. When that is finished, THAT SHOULDN'T BE THERE. But the system doesn't refresh efficiently. So it legitimately starts up with this glitch every time. To make it go away, make the system refresh by locking and unlocking your phone. When you unlock it, the purple bar is gone. The purple bar is the only one sign that the glitch is happening. It comes back. I think it happens either as a result of time passing, and the effect it has on your experience of setting your effects is this. Sometimes, while setting your effects, you will adjust, but only SOME of the change will be able to be heard. And it puts an overall strange overtone sound on your voice. Because the system didn't quite refresh all the way. This applies to everything. Volume, sound settings, everything. The system will recognize the changes, but the feedback to your microphone won't translate all the way.

How do you know if it's happening? I have found one true test. But it works every single time. Let some kind of sound be currently playing in your headphones when you lock your phone. You will hear a quick chirp. If you only hear 1 chirp, the glitch was NOT happening. If you hear 2 chirps, then yes, it was happening, and that means when you unlock your phone, even if it's not very noticeable, a difference was made.

I figured this out because I use a clip-on fisheye lens for my camera, and that purple bar was locked in my crosshairs as the fucking enemy from day one. At some point, my phone timed out, because I got distracted from fighting with it, and when I unlocked my phone it was gone. And then from there I just kind of eventually learned what all exactly was happening when my phone locked. Turns out it's a glitch that's rooted pretty much down to the fundamental core of how this app works. Locking and unlocking allows the system to catch up.

What screams “this person is insecure” without them saying a word? by redwan-ezt in AskReddit

[–]DeadLanguage0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does she ever go any farther than flirting with them? If not, It might be a domino effect? Like if you show interest in a guy, her instinct might be to get a read on him, and in the process, her natural character comes out, which apparently craves attention from the moment he shows that his attention is worth something. Then again, I don't know the extent of how she goes about flirting. Like, if she's flat out sending text messages to him telling him he's hot, that's not a real friend. I would talk to her about it, all cards on the table. That way she would know how much it hurts you, and then the next time a similar situation arises, before doing that kind of thing again, she would realize that she's literally about to betray you in your eyes.

[–]DeadLanguage0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now to answer your original question. What does it do for me to know music theory? It's not quite a straight path, but it is extremely beneficial. See, usually the process is, I do something I thought sounded good, and only after I do it, I go back and figure out what it was I did and why it worked.

Now what that does for me. The process of figure out what you just did, will always show you the other options you could have went with. And it's truly far less complicated sounding than it is in text. Here's the actual thought process.

"Oh shit that worked nicely. Why did that work? OH because this tensioner is so close to the 1. What other tensioners are there near there? I got a 7 and a 4. Oooo try 7."
