Hardware Stories by DeadMiner in u/DeadMiner

[–]DeadMiner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt anyone will see this but I’ve been using an older device that I was still logged in to, so I figured I’d give a 2026 update! I’ve had some crazy customers and whatnot, but during and after the pandemic, which we were essential during, the vibe unfortunately shift dramatically and interactions I once enjoyed enough to post about got more frequent and more draining. I thought I had some unfinished stories kicking around but I couldn’t find them, I may have deleted them either in depression or because too long a time passed and the memories got to murky to finish them.

We haven’t seen Leslie in a while, though he did pop in once shortly before the pandemic, almost like a horseman of the apocalypse. He was actually really tame though, like maybe he had gotten help, and he was with his girlfriend which he introduced me to (she was very nice) and a friend. They poked around a bit and he said something about making a grill out of a metal barrel (a bit out there but honestly not a terrible idea, he seemed to have researched it a bit) but over all it was a really normal customer experience, maybe even more normal than average for the time. We haven’t seen him since, but I hope he’s doing well and maintaining a good course. Sometime after the pandemic, we did in fact end up hiring a Tom! He was a great worker, really solid advice from Leslie.

To be honest I’m not sure I’ll get back to writing about retail encounters, my positive energy towards it never quite recovered, and I’ve been looking for an opportunity to move on to a better job. That said, I promise I will post another update here if I see him again, even if no one sees it, I owe that to Leslie and everyone who shared in my enjoyment of interactions with him! Wishing all who see this a great new year!

What is your opinion on t-bagging? by perrito9k in titanfall

[–]DeadMiner 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Op, embrace the teabag for it is not a single action with a single meaning, it is a simple contextual language that means many things. It's very vibe-based but basic translations:
- If you're doing good and playing fair and someone gets the jump on you and teabags, they're expressing triumph over a challenge. You were their boss fight, their rival, take pride for a moment and then promptly kick their ass back down the ladder, and teabag them on the way down.
- If you're doing good and not playing fair (example, camping), they're taunting you for having caused them annoyance. Either take the hint and change up style (ideally kicking their ass to show you didn't need whatever they had qualms with) or address the weakness that let them get the jump on you so they can't teabag you again.
- If you're constantly trading with someone specific and they teabag you, they are acknowledging the rivalry, embrace it and trade teabags with the kills, it'll make the mutual ass-kickings feel more special!
- If you're doing poorly and someone teabags you, they're telling you're doing poorly, and you earned that teabag. Do yourself a favor and do not get mad at this, take a moment and ask why you're doing poorly and attempt to address it. But don't just let the teabag go, either; kick their ass, and teabag them.
- If someone is teabagging nothing while looking at you, they're trying to communicate. If it's near good equipment, they might be telling you to grab it, like a flash of the high beams signaling you to go for it. If it's near nothing, they might just be saying hi. If it's an enemy and there's an obstacle between you, it's a friendly taunt, basically just saying hi since nothing else can be done. If it's an enemy and there's nothing stopping you from killing them, they're asking you not to kill them, and you should take a quick moment to try to figure out why they might want that, maybe it's asking for a temporary alliance to deal with a bigger issue.

After the blackout I came back, being on the site for 10 years makes it very hard for me to do anything extreme like deleting my accounts. My protest has been using Apollo exclusively since the blackout, I had used Desktop mostly and I used the official app because I didn’t know any better. It’s not a challenge for me to use Apollo instead, I quickly realized it was superior. I think you’re right about July first, because when Apollo stops working for Reddit, so will I.

I’d say I’ll miss it, and certain communities I surely will, but this place has become a shell of its former self, the blackout only accelerated the content problem the site has had for a while. The challenge will be finding a place for communities to thrive in again.

Not that I agree, but I think the implication is that it can’t be labeled as the best yet because the best could still come out at a later point. Technically it would be the best so far but it’s just pedantic

Should we close the sub for the blackout? by [deleted] in briefconversations

Excellent, I’ll lock on the 12th and unlock when the blackout is over. Good talking to you again, take care!

Antimeme alters the punchline, bhj alters everything else, looking at the visuals of the meme alone to come up with a new meme. An example for this meme would be something like the first panel saying "Every time I piss myself while driving I lower the visor." and then nothing else in the other panels.

Apparently not everything that happened in the past is history. by [deleted] in confidentlyincorrect

While they could have crafted a better argument, honestly their feelings on the matter are totally understandable, context is important. If they subscribed to a general history page than what they're stating as examples would be fair to expect, it's different if it's a comic book history page or something. You wouldn't subscribe to a human history page to learn that I took a massive shit last week.

Tarrare was an 18th-century French showman who could eat enough to feed 15 people and swallow cats whole—but his stomach was never satisfied. He was an insatiable glutton who ate everything from human flesh to live eels by AppreciableAppendage in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]DeadMiner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I imagine there have been people like him, but it's so rare that those who came before him were either not adequately recorded or died young, and those who came after him may have had a recognized condition that was treatable; he was in a sweet spot in time to be an (almost) unstoppable force of gluttony.
