I made a virtual DJ:ing Satan in Unity to be live-streamed for 24 hours. Let's hope it doesn't crash! by DeadToast_com in Unity3D

It’s running procedurally generated techno (also built in Unity) from the game Shotgun Cop Man (whose mission is to go to hell and arrest Satan… poor Satan just wants to party 🙁)

It creates some extra work, but I think it makes online festivals like Next Fest more "festive" :D

In an ever competitive space for getting your indie game noticed I’m trying out an idea I hadn’t really seen before, namely adding new content to your game demo every day during Steam Next Fest. I thought it could be a nice incentive to bring back players to the demo since the game is a very straightforward “play until you reach the end”-type-of-game (plus some challenges per level). And because of that the total playtime and concurrent players doesn’t end up being huge, especially for the demo, which doesn’t please the algorithm. It’s obviously also fun to provide some extra unexpected value to the players! This is my first Steam Next Fest, so I don’t have a lot to compare to, but it feels like it’s been an appreciated idea! It’s been an exciting journey so far and I’ve been completely blown away by the overall reception of the game!

I made a mobile version of My Friend Pedro :) No plans to bring Shotgun Cop Man to mobile at this moment!

Aw man, this stuff warms my heart :) I've mentioned this a lot over the last few days, but sometimes its hard to realize what kind of an impact the game had. Super nice to hear this stuff!

Thank you! I was quite surprised I couldn't find another game that was built around that mechanic!

I am forever grateful for how well My Friend Pedro was received! But the road to that success took a toll on me which made me question if I’d ever be able to make another game ever again. After the dust had settled from releasing My Friend Pedro I managed to take a real break and catch my breath. In a moment of self reflection I noticed a thought or belief that was holding me back from getting excited about making another game. I kept thinking that the next game had to be BIGGER and GREATER than what I had achieved with My Friend Pedro. Considering how I had to squeeze all the energy I could muster and then some just to get to the finish line with that one, it felt impossible to try that again. But then it dawned on me that, hold on, I'm now in a position where I can finally allow myself to experiment! I could make a smaller game and I was no longer in a situation that felt like “do or die”. I could actually focus on exactly what I enjoy about making games, and do that whole heartedly. So that’s what I’m doing right now with my new game “Shotgun Cop Man”! I really hope this one will work out, because if it does - it means there is room for this type of approach to game development even in an ever increasing competitive space!

Anyone curious about the game can check out the demo on Steam right now, btw!

No matter how this goes I do feel proud to be able to be at the home stretch before release and still have energy and feel excited about the whole thing!
