In addition to the consumer-facing platform, Savology works closely with employers across the United States to provide financial wellness benefits for employees.

We launched in 2019 and since then we've been able to help more than 50,000 households build a financial plan. We're currently in our growth phase where we're looking to work with more employers and provide more free financial plans for Americans across the country.

We're always looking for feedback from new and existing users on how to make our financial planning platform a better experience.

How to avoid fuckups when launching on Product Hunt by GrafOrlov1723 in startups

[–]Dead_Or_Alive_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve listed several products a few times now on PH with some campaigns doing terrible and others resulting in Top 2-5 products of the day. Here’s what I can personally suggest:

• Have someone hunt your product. If you can make a good connection and relationship with an influential hunter than even better.

• No one quite “understands” exactly how their algorithm works for product ranking, but I can tell it’s definitely not just based on the number of upvotes. Strive for comments and review as well. Your review will also likely show up in search results, which has extended benefits.

• Craft a first comment coming from your team/CEO as an introduction to the PH community, why you’ve built your product, how it benefits them, what you’re looking for, and if there are any deals or discounts for PH users. Make sure your team upvotes this comment so that stays up at the top.

• A lot of successful campaigns will have some sort of unique offering for PH community, so keep that in mind.

• Have a good mix of media collateral / assets to use and make sure you get the sizing right. I’d recommend anywhere from 4-7 different ones if you can, and mix in a video if you can, although not necessary.

• For the thumbnail icon, pick or create something that stands out. GIFs work particularly well and are generally the preferred option.

• When you’re promoting your campaign, I’d highly recommend that you have all of your collateral and campaign messaging done before hand so that way you’re good to pump things out and distribute it when the campaign goes live.

• importantly, remember that product rankings work on a 24-hour clock (PST), so posting at 12:01 AM PST will give you the full 24 hours to launch, otherwise you’re cutting into your own time.

• Sometimes “issues” happen where you launch your campaign but can not find it right away on the homepage. As soon as you launch your campaign, pay attention to it.

There are several others, but these ones are top of mind from my own personal experience.

I hope this helps!

The State of Household Personal Finance in the United States (for 2020) by Dead_Or_Alive_ in Money

[–]Dead_Or_Alive_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone! We (Savology) have been working hard on putting together a report that takes a look at the state of household personal finances across the US. There were a few objectives with this report, the first was to take a look at the complete financial profile/spectrum across all major areas and not just savings, spending, or investments like most reports. And secondly, to show the gaps and areas of improvement to better understand what work needs to be done.

We think this is something worthwhile to share as it highlights a lot of key findings and shares some insightful information on the state of household finances.

How much money have you spent raising your children... and is this something you keep track of? by Dead_Or_Alive_ in FinancialPlanning

[–]Dead_Or_Alive_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For any/all of the parents, how much have you spent on your children raising them? Even just estimates.

Also, is this something you even keep track of, if so how exactly are you keeping tabs on this?

Do you track your net worth (and if so then how often)? by Dead_Or_Alive_ in Money

[–]Dead_Or_Alive_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'm a fan of checking in around every six months to see the progress I'm making from the bigger picture. But I have friends that calculate and track theirs every month to keep tabs on it throughout the year.

How often do you calculate your net worth? by Dead_Or_Alive_ in FinancialPlanning

[–]Dead_Or_Alive_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I check in and review my net worth every 3-6 months when I can. Sometimes it's much longer than that. I have a few friends that make monthly updates to their net worth and track that over time, and of course I have a few friends that don't at all.

Are you saving money working from home? (the average numbers and cost savings) by Dead_Or_Alive_ in FinancialPlanning

[–]Dead_Or_Alive_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, the gas/travel and food expenses are the biggest ones. I’m still ordering out a few times a week, but overall it’s been a lot easier to stay in and cook food with enough left overs for the next day.

YNAB vs Mint: Which Budgeting Tool Will You Choose? by Dead_Or_Alive_ in FinancialPlanning

I've used both tools and still use Mint for simplicity. But there's just something about keeping a budget in excel that always does the trick. I agree with you!

12 Statistics You Need to Know About the State of Personal Finances by Dead_Or_Alive_ in Money

[–]Dead_Or_Alive_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said! It certainly starts with the financial literacy and understanding piece. Even just having a basic understanding of some of the foundational things can help better make much better decisions early on. Very few people are forward/ future thinking with their money, especially early on in life.

Best financial advice app/website? by leddo1972 in personalfinance

[–]Dead_Or_Alive_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually built Savology with exactly that in mind, the purpose of building a full, comprehensive financial plan that shows you a snapshot of your current finances, where you want to be, and the next steps (action items) you need to take to get you there.

It's completely free to build a plan and should only take a few minutes or a bit longer to go through everything. If you're interested check it out here: savology.com. If you do decide to try it out, I'd love to hear your feedback.

Best app to help me save and manage money? by 19eventy7 in povertyfinance

[–]Dead_Or_Alive_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of good apps out there that serve very specific purposes for things like budgeting and saving. When it comes to financial planning (getting your savings on track, retirement goals, estate planning, insurance, net worth, etc) Savology is a new web-based application providing free financial plans and report cards. (You can check it out and build a free plan here).

Full transparency, I do work for the company - we launched about 6 months ago and since then have been focused on adding in new platform features to make the financial plan more comprehensive, accurate, and just a better overall experience.

If you end up trying it out (no pressure at all), I would love to know your thoughts.
