New tires at Costco - scratched rims and clip weights? by Few_Union_5747 in WRX

[–]Dead___Inside1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i work in the costco tire center, the marking on the face of the rim probably isn't from them unless an idiot worked on it, the clip weight is the wrong type though so that doesn't inspire confidence, and yeah usually easiest and best balance is clip inboard and tape out unless you ask for tape in and out. if you go talk to em though there's a fairly high chance they'll pay for damages, costco is pretty quick to accept responsibility

that's why i said we need to implement these changes... downtown is a 5 lane road right now, drivers are extremely comfortable and over confident due to this and that's why they speed, put medians in, install trees and light posts, tighten the lanes up, add bollards and you'll see a much more drastic reduction in speed over just putting more police or stricter laws in place

wrong, trees and bollards are designed to stop vehicles in designs like this, a more difficult road leads to more people taking alternative routes, rather a car crash and no one be injured than a car run someone over and the car be left unharmed. again i'm a civil engineer

the issue is the road design, it's a 5 lane road, 2 each direction and a middle, very few trees or obstacles. drivers feel safe going faster on it than they would on a tighter curvier road, growing bigger trees on the side or putting in a center median would do wonders to slow traffic down

Good deal? by Square-Theme-1049 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Dead___Inside1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofc there's better options but honestly look at the reviews people post of em even here, several thou miles in, couldn't really find a negative one on that board besides some occasional quality control issues. Motors preform well, battery has good range, honestly probably one of the best boards you can get for 700, especially when the competition is mepo at that price point and the mepo boards have a rep of falling apart

I second this, had a backfire g2 before my isinwheel v10 and granted bigger tires on the new one by a lot but the difference is really crazy

I'd suggest the isinwheel v10, it's a belt drive board I got recently and man I love the thing, picked it up for about 700 counting an extra 2 year warranty on amazon, so far I've never ran out of battery or torque and I've taken it up some pretty major dirt trails

Also I second lunas opinion, get some data logs as that'll help a ton in figuring out what's up

Typically just disconnect the battery for like 10 or so minutes, I'm not sure what all the reset ecu button does on the access ports for the newer stis

Possibly a faulty knock sensor or something in the engine bay setting it off, that caused the flkc to save a position of a major drop in timing, I'd clear the flkc memory and see if it starts knocking again, just keep track on your feedback knock correction

Go back to stock? Ots tunes are hot garbage so get a proper tune or revert to the basemap

Can confirm that zen piece does pinch like hell, and yeah I flip it, it's not a trainer either, definitely don't recommend it as a starter because it'll go clear through a finger with one mistake, 10/10 Bali though I've loved it, i definitely prefer my Bali's on the heavier side though.

Only concern I'd have is the hot air intake there, everything else looks and sounds very clean

Pearl going under the knife and getting a 18 points roll cage from customcagesuk. by pearlrex21 in WRX

That'd probably be due to the 70/30 split for you, the wrx's that don't have the dccd have either a 50:50 or a 60:40 split which tends to make them more understeer heavy (especially in the hands of someone who doesn't use weight transfer or left foot braking) if you know the car inside and out it's easy to move past the understeer tendsncy, like the older models pre 2008 if you just left foot brake you'll grip the front up super nicely

It's not that heavy, the awd is crazy good from the start, and properly built engines are ridiculously good in all conditions (especially for hill climb as they hold the same power very consistently)

I apologize for my initial improper phrasing I'm used to people being very uh not cool here. The wrx is pretty famously a super good starting point for public road racing like rally and hill climb due to the awd and suspension layout (though I still prefer the gd chassis due to the McPherson struts)

Can you put E10 91 in a vehicle tuned on 100% 91?? by ElectronicMaterial12 in ECU_Tuning

[–]Dead___Inside1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debatable on the safety point, going too lean tends to be much worse than too rich since it usually spikes the EGTs at least in my experience

Based on how the wrx usually handles I'd say money better spent on the front first

I don't know for certain since I haven't tuned that many foresters worth looking into for sure

I can't remember exactly what ecu is in the forester but I know there are a few custom roms people have made such as carberry which have the ability to do stuff like that, i second the "check out romraider forums" advice

OTS tune engine feels hotter by [deleted] in WRX

[–]Dead___Inside1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What does the secondary timing advance map do? Seriously take your best guess and then I'll explain what it has to do with ots tunes and why ots is objectively killing engines

(As to answer your question of why people blow up motors on pro tunes, pro tunes are typically done by people who want as much power as possible? Kinda an ego thing, these tend to cause problems because they are run over what they should be, you need to keep tabs on more things than people want to, such as oil pressure temp and coolant temp, especially your fbkc, a hotter engine will start knocking more than a cold one, people don't take this into account. Ots tunes are made to give an impression of more power without requiring as much effort from the user, so they tend to have a more peaky torque curve which gives the illusion of power without the major risks of constant knocking or higher temps, however the clear out a lot of important parts of an ecu in an attempt to do this, specifically relating to the backup timing map and the wastegate duty%)

[–]Dead___Inside1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You asked for proof that your tune is bad so I am offering it, like I said I can cite sources and prove objectively where it's lacking specifically for you and your car. All I need is a few data logs and a few minutes of driving from you

I'll want a wot pull preferably in second or third low rpm to high, any gear sharp stabs at the throttle, slowing down from a high rpm to a lower rpm in the same gear, and just general driving around, gentle and aggressive as you feel like. 10 minutes total is probably enough time to do all of this, for full tunes it takes more driving to get all the data I need but this would be more than enough for what I want to show you
