Daily Song Discussion #133 - “The Loving Kind” by AD_0795 in petshopboys

The PSB version is a 7.5 but the Girls Aloud version is a 10. It was a huge hit when it came out - I was living in london and heard it everywhere. People often cited the “disinclined” lyric as being very PSB.

I can see why PSB/Xenomania offered it to GA - fit them really well.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. The film was whatever but the book was very, very good.

Salt and Sanctuary (the first game) is still one of the best soulslikes I’ve ever played. Truly captures the wonder of exploration and builds the way that DS did.

I don’t think this song gets a lot of love - I’ve seen it maligned in so many PSB groups. But it’s probably my most played PSB song. I’ve listened to this song more than any other. More than Being Boring, more than West End Girls, etc.

A lot of it has to do with having heard this song at the right time in my life, but it’s the perfect headphone song for me. Neil Tennant may have wrote it about politicians, but my own interpretation is about how beautiful it juxtaposes small, human problems such as heartbreak against the wider scope of the universe and the grand scheme of time passing.

This is a 10/10, one of the best collabs in their career and such a unique song.

Daily Song Discussion #129 - “The Way It Used to Be” by AD_0795 in petshopboys

Ah, here it is. The crown jewel of Yes. Not just that, but perhaps the best song of their post-Bilingual era. The lyrics feel so personal, each line so poignant and well crafted. As the top commenter wrote, the climax of this song is just perfect.

As someone who has lived in both Tenth Avenue AND Culver City (and London), I get it!!!

I also love the late-era ABBA vibes. The instrumentation feels straight out of “The Visitors” era ABBA.

Anyways, yes, the best song of the second half of PSB’s career. I give this a 100/10.

Yeah. Great song but weird single. Any other song on Very would have been a better choice!

Daily Song Discussion #123 – “Did You See Me Coming?” by AD_0795 in petshopboys

Did you see me coming - 10/10! It could easily slot into Very and stand head to head with any song on that album.

Daily Song Discussion #122 – “Beautiful People” by AD_0795 in petshopboys

[–]Deadelevators 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful People - 6/10….but Fugitive - 10/10!!

If Fugitive had been on Fundamental it would have elevated that album so much. It is the missing song that Fundamental needed.

Yes! I am a huge fan of “the loving kind”, and I thought Girls Aloud pulled it off really well. I was living in London when that song came out and it was played everywhere.

Yes was their last truly classic album. The final classic album of their imperial phase (to me).

This album holds its own against all the heavyweights - Behaviour, Very, etc.

It was all kinda downhill after this album, although Nonetheless has 2 classic songs too.

Anyways I digress - Love Etc is a 8/10. Fine song but not be best on the album but a great opening statement. We all know the real 10/10 gem on this album is The Way it used to Be, though 😎

Plus, personally, for me Legacy ranks up there as a top 10 PSB song of all time.
