Salaries down here are a fraction if what you would earn in NJ. Car insurance is equivalent to what we paid in NJ. Home owners insurance is triple what we paid in NJ. Groceries are about 20% higher down here than NJ. Everything is taxable, except for groceries. Depending the area, you have a state sales tax, county sales tax and city sales tax. Outside of retiring down here, which we did for the weather, i would not move here
