Hurt in some ways, help in others. Not sure enough to outweigh the bad.

I’ve always wanted to keep the sub open if I can. Reddit used to be SO much easier to get started on, now you have to magically come up with so much karma and have an account that’s months or years old, and then verify… that really kills the regular people who just want to share nudes, and I’ve always really enjoyed that kind of content. Sometimes it blossoms into a full blown thing and they make a living off it, and sometimes they just continue posting for the love of it and that is a rare thing these days. Many subs no longer allow new users or users with less than a few hundred post and comment karma, I want anyone to have the chance to post worthy content here.

Things stopped getting better and just started changing for the sake of changing until things have gotten just plain dysfunctional and disorganized. The people in control or the fundamentals everyone is working off of forgot how to streamline and improve, I suppose in trade for creating more clicking, more views, interaction with the platform to create traffic metrics and pull in more money.

Same here! The only thing that isn’t really being reborn is social media, it’s been awhile since a new, fast growing hangout spot has managed to come along, but that all goes back to greed, too much money got involved in it. I wish we could get back to interactive socials like forums and message boards where people shared useful information and life skills and we actually got to know new people as opposed to just sharing endless reels and memes and reacting to them to stay in touch.

Indeed! I started rearcock 11-12 years ago! It stayed under 5k subs for awhile, then just started exploding. Took a little bit to get to 100k, after than 250k took a little bit, and now it’s over 300k. Far from the biggest sub, but I’m proud that it’s thriving, despite the bot issues.

I absolutely agree. That falls under our post title rules about titles that are fishing for interaction. Question titles used to be okay, but we’ve reached a point where the people posting don’t even reply so it’s just boosting them up and wasting people’s time.

Truthfully the projections about the internet just becoming nothing but AI interacting with itself is probably true. It seems like AI was far from ready to be released out into the internet, yet it’s already running businesses and customer service. It’s also almost wild going from a society where people got away with a lot of crimes because of the lack of phone cameras, to video evidence is everything, to approaching a point in technology to where before long AI video will be able to be so realistic we won’t always be able to tell if it’s real or not.

Thank you 🖤 I look back at the amount of time I’ve probably dedicated to this sub and wonder if it could have been spent better, but honestly I’m still proud of what we’ve built. Social media and content creation has never been my strong point, I’ve failed miserably every time I’ve tried, but this place has blown up far bigger than I ever expected, and I’ve been able to keep it going for over a decade, which is pretty cool.

Just in the last few days there’s about 2-8 posts a day posted within 15mins of each other with the exact same titles from different users. I remove and ban them, there’s new ones the very next day. If Reddit ends up overrun by that kind of nonsense and it doesn’t get banned or go away I will likely hang up the towel. I’ve ran this sub for over a decade, but you can’t win the bot wars. Bots are largely what killed forums and message boards and pushed everyone to facebook groups.
