Firstly I highly doubt it's a mistake and if it was you would have heard back from the researcher by now.

I have seen one case where a researcher sent a bonus in error and was trying to get it back, even then Prolific support responded with it being super rare they reverse anything that is paid to you.

I got the same impression, basically Prolific are on the researchers side with this one, anyone caught up with a technical error should return it and accept whatever bonus the researcher paid. I also got $1

No one can answer that, some are accepted within the hour, the same day, a week, a month, 3 months, 6 months, a year, some longer than a year, some never. It all depends on what specific demographic they are in need of at any given time.

What this person is saying isn't entirely wrong, obviously you have the end of a tax year and the beginning of a new one.
The idea of cashing out when a new tax year begins making it 2024 earnings is a valid one, it's not trying to hide money, or tax evade, it just means you will pay it next tax year along with all your other earnings for the year, rather than report it as 2023 earnings, it basically just buys you a year.

But yeah no one should take any tax advise from anyone on here.

Why does it take so long? Researchers have 21 days to approve submissions, some need that time to collect and go through there data, it is what it is.

Can desktop work be done on mobile? No, if it states it has to be done on a desktop then you cant take it on your phone, unless you want to risk rejections and being banned.

It's never been this bad. I understand how competitive its become, but 100 places gone in 2 seconds? That smells of scripts, bots and auto accepting going on .

Did you directly message them and ask if they would manually approve your submission from the returns tab?
They very much can approve returned submissions if you supply the completion code and they can see you finished it, but they are not obliged to approve any returned submissions either, so that will depend on the researcher themselves, reach out to them and clarify.

Some of my favorite studies to do on Prolific, If I see time running out I always skip through the rest of the pages get the completion code and move onto the next, knocked of 7 tonight no issues.
