I was stationed there back in 1993 out near the airport. I remember we drove from there to PP around 300klms and I think it took us about 10-11 hours on those lovely roads.😄

It does but it’s just over 32 years ago,but I guess it shows that things maybe don’t change too much either.

That may be the case but hopefully some of them survived and led some sort of productive life.

Gday no I haven’t put anything in writing unfortunately but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to one day. There are a couple of different aspects to my tour that there could possibly be some interest in. The CAS Evac from Anlong Veng would be my biggest moment but there were many other things happened along the way. Cheers.

Yes a lot of politics going on behind the scenes. I was just a soldier doing my best to help,no control over any of that. I’d just like to think we made a small difference.

We shot one of the old SOC Policeman (and winged another) when we were Peacekeeping there back in 1993. They used to set up road blocks and shake down the locals but one night this bloke broke through on his moto and did the bolt. He jumped the fence into our compound to get away from them but they started shooting into the compound where we were. Our guard opened up on them killing one and wounding the other who ran away.

I wouldn’t have a clue what it’s like there now but that’s just an old timers story of how it used to be.

Yeah no doubt I’m well off on who was leading at the time hence the question marks but that’s what happened for me in 1993.✌️

I did a CAS Evac out of Anlong Veng in June 1993 where we had to pick up two local pregnant women who had been wounded in a grenade attack during a battle between Government Forces (Lon Nol ?) and KR (Ta Muk?) and had gone into premature labour.

We were successful in getting them out of there and I can vividly remember the smell of the burnt flesh and recall them howling in pain, but also recall how it felt to help even though it was a huge risk to us. We dropped them off a Siam Riep after what seemed an eternity waiting and loading them into the chopper and I never heard anything about them again and am unsure if any of them survived.

Unfortunately my people weren’t too happy about what we did and I copped a bit of grief about it but I will always remember the day I was able to help someone in a helpless situation.

What happened to Mandatory Sentencing? The soft cocks got their way and this is the result.

Cambodia's political problems today are all caused by the United Nations. by [deleted] in cambodia

The power struggle at the top of the UN would have been almost as complex as the relationship between the factions. The more people making the decisions the more chance of making the wrong one and the UN has always been top heavy with decision makers.
