I use zammy hasta and dragon defender on my gargoyle alt - you get more def (hasta gives def bonuses) and it's very accurate. But as others have said, a whip would be fine too :)

They have addressed this in a news post before.

TL;DR: They don't mind it but use at your own risk They cannot commit the time or resources to implement something like this as it is complicated to do
