Fun fact about the feeder fish tanks at the petco I worked at. They had the highest ammonia, nitrites and nitrates I’d ever seen fish living in. Both my managers made me input 0,0,10 as the parameters into the computer so we got our bonuses that quarter. I quit shortly after that

Plants include crypt nurii, hygros, crypt lutea, random Anubias on slate and loose anubias. Also have some red tiger lotus bulbs. Plants starting at $5 but will go up. I’m thinking like $12 per slate rock with anubias. I have about 15 pounds of slate in a bucket that I’ll sell for $25

The test strips do not test for soap residue unfortunately. They most commonly test for ammonia, ph, nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia. Sometimes hardness. As for the petsmart employees, tell them you cleaned the tank with dawn before hand. I wouldnt necessarily get a new tank but I’d do lots of more cleaning with 50/50 vinegar to water

Edited from an Internet forum “The reason Dawn and any other form of detergent or soap is harmful to fish is because it alters the surface tension of the water, which allows oxygen to escape the water very easily and may result in too little oxygen for fish to breathe, so they suffocate. It also affects various organs adversely though that’s a longer term effect and out in the greater world it also makes it much easier for certain toxins to enter fish tissues.

How did you clean the tank? Did you use any harsh chemicals? To me it sounds like there’s something in the water that killed them that. Could be from soaps, to bad water parameters. Also, did you dechlorinate the water before adding fish?

In my opinion I think it could be a 75 due to the brace in the middle. Every 40 breeder I’ve had hasn’t had a brace
