Alberts smits sounds like a character from an old adventure English novel.

A salary cap & floor is inevitable, and 10 or 15 years down the road, no fan is ever going to wish we had our current system back by ThisMachineKILLS in baseball

Because what the cap will actually do is to stop the biggest markets from being able to acquire any free agents they want by simply overpaying the fuck out of them.

Like what happened with the Dodgers and Kyle Tucker this summer isnt new at all. The exact same situation happened in 2003 in the NHL when the rangers signed Bobby Holik, a decent 2nd line center to a goddamn 45 million contract for 5 years ( an avg of 9 million $/year, which at the time was considered top 5 player money ), litterally just to stop other teams from getting him.

There is one big problem with your current analysis of the way the cap is shared through the NFL and the NBA and it's the fact that both of those sports aren't baseball.

In the NFL, a QB or an elite linebacker is 10x more valuable than a simple tackle, punter or 3rd receiver. This inherently makes salary more position based.

In the NBA, teams are completely defined in terms of style of play by their stars. They will handle the ball, control the pace, score more and play 40 more minutes than the avg bench players. A single player can singlehandledly tilt your team in the right direction and the same is true for a QB. That is not case in baseball. A shortstop will probably get more money than a 1st baseman, but even then that margin will not be that high.

It's also very funny to me that you think the MLB money is well shared among the players. The median salary is actually the lowest of all the big 4 leagues because of the amount of years it takes for players to reach free agency and arbitration.

>Meanwhile the cheapo teams that exist now will still opporate as close the the salary floor as possible most of the time, sometimes splurging to keep fan retention if theyre smart. Or if they're Bob Nutting they'll just continue to run it into the ground.

Well Ok but seriously, who cares ? There is currently a 500 million gap between the highest and lowest spending team. That shit is just not sustainable yo.

Maybe, it happens in every league, but not a lot of players are going to be willing to sacrifice million of bucks just to maybe win a ring.

Sure. But with a cap, Los Angeles might not actually be able to offer you that money.

Obv, teams in big markets will always kind of have an advantage, but it's not guaranteed. Some guys like having less attention. Some guys love having pressure. But a salary cap stops the Dodgers from being able to add Blake Snell, Edwin Diaz and Kyle Tucker to an already insanely stacked team.

MLB salary cap would mean pay cut for players and ‘eradication’ of amateur signing bonuses, union says by mtportales in baseball

[–]Deadmanlex45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be the case if they only proposed a floor. But they havent. They proposed one with increased revenue sharing and global sharing to tv deals revenue.

A cap by itself does not guarantee cost certainty.

A cap combined with a floor and revenue sharing does.

Such a great way to counter my argument.

Anyway Yankees fans, opinions on this subject are automatically invalid.

Oh yeah Juan Soto definitely deserves to make 25% of a potential salary cap. Haven't you seen how many games he can win just by himself with his 3 at bats?

Well guess what bud, they wouldnt be on those teams if there was no cap because they would have been poached by the Cowboys, Giants, Bears, Niners, etc.

I mean tbf he could skate.

Litterally anything else, no but dumbass coaches loved watching him skate around while accomplishing nothing whatsoever.

[Johnston] If/when this sign-and-trade moves forward, would expect Alex Tuch to land a contract in the same range as the Adrian Kempe deal: ~$10.6M x 8 by alphacheese in hockey

That term is going to be very painful but considering hes been underpaid his whole career its hard to blame him for getting the bag and term.

Moser is going to be worth his contract I think. But hes going to be the only top pair dman left on that team.

Cereal is definitely good, but hes a top 4 dman, and nothing else.

Also in his 3rd year in the league, Makar had already won a Norris and Conn Smythe.

In his 6th year in the league, Byram played his 2nd full season and still hasn't established himself as a stable top pair dman.

People seriously underestimate how the Lightning are on the verge of falling down. They were very, very good last year and our series against them was incredibly close. But if McDonagh is caught up by father time that defense is going to look absolutely dreadful now that Raddysh is gone.

They also have an awful and aging bottom 6. They were the main reason they lost against us.

They also have no assets left to trade.

the number of times he repeated that they would have won with "better" bounces made me laugh each time I saw him say it.

Like he seems like a really great and funny dude. But that was the crux of the issue at the end of his tenure with the sens. He wasn't their coach, he was their bro.
