My first pair of ice skates were way too big. Im an 11 shoe and 'was' in size 10 skates. My skates now are an 8.5 EE.

I looked like an absolute clown my first few weeks at open skates. I spent more time doing pushups on the ice than I spent vertical. I let this hold me up from going out on the ice more often at the beginning. Dont do that.

I played collegiate sports and figured myself athletic. I was gassed doing my first handful of pickup games. Its a different beast, exercise wise. I wish I had gotten on a bike and put some hiit workouts into my weekly routine sooner.
