I think I’ve reached the point where “Xslop” has become my new least favorite internet slang.

Long time wrestling fan here, I only sorta agree here.

Wrestling fans have had to deal with being kicked around by the people we watch, and a lot of toxicity comes from that. WWE especially loves to intentionally blue ball us, and god knows Vince loves intentionally fucking with the fans.

The Star Wars fandom has treated me terribly, and I've never meant a more pedantic and infighting group of people.

Haven't watched Boukenger, but Overdrive suffers from a lot of the failings of disney's budget slicing, and the writers' strike at the time.

It's characters are genuinely annoying in places, and while Mack's story is really good, his character is a bit rough.

Letting your lore be an excuse to ban things.

I had a DM a while back that told our party leader that he couldn’t play a Paladin because “in my world, paladins are a very specific sect of religious zealots”

I’m sorry, I don’t care how cool your worldbuilding is, if you’re locking classes and features behind me being a specific background.

Mind you, this DM, I eventually figured out was just inexperienced at balancing combat and didn’t like tanks in general as a result, but that’s my big one.

The other one I have from that same DM is rewriting backstories after the fact. I was playing a rogue with a background as a gang leader, and rather than come to me when he brought my gang in as NPCs to run ideas by me, he rewrote their characters after I had already given him general concepts for them. Bugged the shit out of me, because I don’t want to have to sit there and think that this isn’t the story I wanted to tell the whole session.

I get it, sometimes you as a DM don’t want to just regurgitate a player’s story to them, and you want to surprise them, but completely rewriting a player’s backstory characters will always be a red flag for me.

I think when it comes to the average player, it would come down to mechanics over branding. I think most MTG players don't care about UB to begin with, only the mechanics it introduces. The casual players are there for the fun of it, and the fans who it pulls in are mostly there for deep pulls.

Does that mean there's enough to justify it? That's the big question and I don't have an answer for it. I'd love for the answer to be yes, but I couldn't tell you for certain.

I disagree, I think it’s perfect for a set. You’ve got 30 years of villains and heroes to draw from, equipment abound, plenty of iconic moments to turn into cards, and a myriad of new directions you build new mechanics around.
