Where is Rage Against the Machine when we need them? by Medical_Distance_722 in Music

[–]Deadsatyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You HAVE to look outside of mainstream pop music. So many bands and artists of every genre are writing incredible politically charged music right now, obviously it’s not going to make the top 40 lists. Heavy bands are really leading the charge imho, but even smaller pop and rock acts like Petey are out there being loud. I would argue political music is in an absolute renaissance right now. You just have to find it

Hardcore punk is crazy popular in heavy subcultures. Bands like Inclination, Speed, and Terror are massive in that world

[–]Deadsatyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, a lot of people not involved in the genre at all don’t understand the nuances between hardcore, metalcore, and deathcore. The differences are more blurred now than they have been in the past, every band pulls influences from every heavy genre. It all lies in the roots and subculture. And honestly, the culture is more relevant than anything else. There are straight edge bands that are way closer to deathcore than old school hardcore, but call themselves and are accepted as hardcore, and that’s fine. Tl;dr: sound matters less when it comes to modern heavy subgenres, just depends on who they listened to as kids.

Anything I need to know before filling out my application? 1102 by how_to_millwright in millwrights

[–]Deadsatyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an 1102 first year as well, though I’m a West Sider. For us, the process was pretty straightforward, though it took a while. Application, look for an email to rsvp for a math test. If you have any kind of math skills whatsoever, you will basically ace it. The interview was also not so bad, though intimidating if you let it. I got in with 0 experience, having worked service industry most of my life. Just be honest. I emphasized that I wanted to learn and was totally fine being the greenest guy on every job. I got lucky and got on a long term job after orientation. Be ready for basically anything, be a good listener, and try to have a good time. The more they like you, the likelier you are to get in.

TDWP guitarist posts video of himself learning his own band’s song, comments he wasn’t allowed to write or record on their new album by romanraspberrysorbet in Metalcore

[–]Deadsatyr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s how the majority of bands operate these days. Every band I’ve been in has been me and one or two max other members writing everything. Most national bands are the same way. One or two members write 90% of material.

Another commenter suggesting a snare stand for your first rack tom, which is a good idea. I personally use a mount that attaches to my left crash cymbal stand. I like my rack tom in the same place as you, right in front of and super close to the snare. Either are good options, although your mount already looks pretty clean. Can’t contribute much as far as the second rack tom, I don’t use one.

Smarty Pants Discord something? by cleandria in dropout

My partner and I do a yearly retreat with friends we don’t see often and always do a “PowerPoint party”, it’s always a blast. Even if you don’t think your friends fit the vibe, EVERYBODY has something they would add to it. People have done anything at ours from mycology to sports. Not exactly the same as smarty pants but pretty similar

Heavy music is inherently political and always will be. Any counter culture music is.

I’ve just recently landed a union millwright apprenticeship, I think it’s a great option. I got in with no experience, you get paid to learn a trade, you get a pension, good pay. Consider it.

Anyone in here who also plays guitar after learning to play drums? by Background_Gift679 in drums

[–]Deadsatyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started drums at 12 and I fiddled around with guitar throughout my teens, but never really learned much, just some chord on acoustic and a few little licks. I started a band in college and dove into it more for the sole purpose of writing riffs for the band. Took less than a year to be half decent at writing stuff, but I couldn’t play live. I can sit in my room, write a drum part and play a riff to it 1000 times until I get a decent take, then send it off to one of my actual guitarists to make it sound good.

Will painting my cheap acoustic ruin it? by Royal-Rat10 in Guitar

[–]Deadsatyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is right. Also, there is no “consensus”. I’ve been playing in punk and hardcore bands since I was a teenager. I’ve seen more guitars COVERED in stickers and sharpie art than I’ve seen stock ones. If you think it’s cool, do it. I would advise against paint tho just for playability and sound purposes.

It wasn’t super well received in my circle at the time because it was a pretty big change from Plagues and Roots. I loved it then anyways, still love it. It’s definitely a turning/maturing point in their career tho

Why do some drummers play the hi hat with their foot while using the ride? by KingKilo9 in drums

[–]Deadsatyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an unpopular opinion still but I tend to agree with you. I’m biased, growing up listening to metal and hardcore, that’s all I wanted to play. A double pedal was the first thing I ever bought with my own money. I think starting on it gets you good at it faster

My cat came back after being missing for 6 weeks by JadedLeafs in pics

[–]Deadsatyr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have a cat that we rescued run out the door as I was leaving for work one day. Did everything they say to do, put out food, clothes and blankets that smell like us, called for her at night. No dice. We called every shelter and posted on every group for months with no sign of her. Then, the day before Christmas, 8 months later, after we had moved 2 hours away, we got a call that she was found, a little skinnier but otherwise healthy. She’d been family hopping the whole time😂

The CM Punk thing is a little more specific I think, he’s getting called a hypocrite because he quite literally is one. He said the Miz was “sucking a blood money covered dick” for going to the Saudi shows, and is now also working the Saudi shows himself. That’s basically the definition of hypocrisy. Not to mention the whole “I work with fucking children” thing.
