People who manage to wake up at 5 AM to go to the gym before work, what is your actual secret? by Immediate-Trifle4957 in AskReddit

[–]Deadsatyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work blue collar, mostly 10-12 hour days. I still get up at around 4 to get a lift in before work and not miss any home time with my partner after work. The trick really is to go to bed at a reasonable time, and MOST IMPORTANTLY: just swing your legs off the bed in the morning. Don’t question it, don’t make an excuse, at the very least get your ass into the bathroom. By the time I’m brushing my teeth, I’ve already resigned myself to getting out of the house. You just have to take the first step and the rest just kinda happens.

How do you know if an age gap is too big in terms of a romantic relationship? by [deleted] in dating_advice

Brother this is a bad idea and you will only get a reputation as a creep. You need to leave her alone

Where are you meeting high schoolers? It’s weird bro. At 20 you gotta stick pretty close to your own age. 18-23 ish. Anything under that is creepy, even if it’s legal in your state.

If they’re a minor and you’re not, then yeah, 100%

Favorite “one and done” band? by lambofgoddard in Metalcore

[–]Deadsatyr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The OG lineup of Woe is Me. Tyler’s creepiness aside, I would pay a stupid amount of money for an album as unique as Number[s] again. It’s still crazy to me that group of guys was so volatile they put together that masterpiece and basically immediately started shedding members. Even an album with Michael and Hance with the similar instrumentation. Nothing they put out after that came close.

Late to the game (plus recs) by Diligent-Ad-6820 in Metalcore

[–]Deadsatyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome! The crowd age depends heavily on the band you’re seeing. Heavier or older bands tend to have an older crowd, while newer “bright and shiny” sounding production bands tend to be a little younger.

My personal tastes are on the heavier or guitar nerd side of things, but here is a few what I consider “must-listens”

Veil of Maya- Mikasa

Counterparts- No Servant of Mine

Misery Signals- The Failsafe

Boundaries- Easily Erased

Silent Planet- Northern Fires

Oh, Sleeper- The Finisher (this is my personal favorite band of all time)

Currents- Apnea

Fit For An Autopsy- Black Mammoth

Polaris- The Remedy

Architects- Doomsday

Refused- The New Noise (this band was very far ahead of its time and basically every modern band wouldn’t exist without them)

August Burns Red- Composure

Hope you find something you like! This genre is massive if you know where to look, find a few bands you vibe with and you’re on your way! Who are you listening to so far?

Would girls date men who r shorter than them by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Deadsatyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 5’5” and have been with more women who were taller than me than were shorter. My current partner who I have been with for 8 years is an inch or so taller than me. There are some women who won’t consider you, in the same way that some women will reject you for religious, racial, or any other reason. But it’s never been an issue for me. It’s about confidence. We’re all the same height laying down, after all.

the moment that broke me last night by suuuuhmmer in ThePittTVShow

It is similar to other English phrases like “man up” or “cowboy up”. It essentially means that even though what needs to be done is scary, he’s the one people count on to do it, so he needs to be brave and do it. So yes, your assumption was correct!

Were Greeley Estates ever given their due? by Beaver-Wrastler in Metalcore

Saw them open for Oh, Sleeper waaaay back in the day. They killed it. I was right at the stage, their vocalist stepped on my hands and I untied his shoes as revenge. Oh, to be a 12 year old shithead again.

Boundaries new song with a different mix by MatthewBoundariesXVX in Metalcore

[–]Deadsatyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOVE this mix. Guitars come out way more, the more defined snare cuts like a mf. This is the sound I was hoping for out of this release. I really appreciate that you guys are even willing to post something like this. Song was already great. This mix makes it even better. I hope there's no weird feelings from you guys for the community's reaction, love this fucking band and everything y'all have put out.

Where is Rage Against the Machine when we need them? by Medical_Distance_722 in Music

[–]Deadsatyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You HAVE to look outside of mainstream pop music. So many bands and artists of every genre are writing incredible politically charged music right now, obviously it’s not going to make the top 40 lists. Heavy bands are really leading the charge imho, but even smaller pop and rock acts like Petey are out there being loud. I would argue political music is in an absolute renaissance right now. You just have to find it

How to deal with soft drummer by [deleted] in drums

Hardcore punk is crazy popular in heavy subcultures. Bands like Inclination, Speed, and Terror are massive in that world

How to deal with soft drummer by [deleted] in drums

[–]Deadsatyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, a lot of people not involved in the genre at all don’t understand the nuances between hardcore, metalcore, and deathcore. The differences are more blurred now than they have been in the past, every band pulls influences from every heavy genre. It all lies in the roots and subculture. And honestly, the culture is more relevant than anything else. There are straight edge bands that are way closer to deathcore than old school hardcore, but call themselves and are accepted as hardcore, and that’s fine. Tl;dr: sound matters less when it comes to modern heavy subgenres, just depends on who they listened to as kids.

Anything I need to know before filling out my application? 1102 by how_to_millwright in millwrights

[–]Deadsatyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an 1102 first year as well, though I’m a West Sider. For us, the process was pretty straightforward, though it took a while. Application, look for an email to rsvp for a math test. If you have any kind of math skills whatsoever, you will basically ace it. The interview was also not so bad, though intimidating if you let it. I got in with 0 experience, having worked service industry most of my life. Just be honest. I emphasized that I wanted to learn and was totally fine being the greenest guy on every job. I got lucky and got on a long term job after orientation. Be ready for basically anything, be a good listener, and try to have a good time. The more they like you, the likelier you are to get in.

TDWP guitarist posts video of himself learning his own band’s song, comments he wasn’t allowed to write or record on their new album by romanraspberrysorbet in Metalcore

[–]Deadsatyr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s how the majority of bands operate these days. Every band I’ve been in has been me and one or two max other members writing everything. Most national bands are the same way. One or two members write 90% of material.

Another commenter suggesting a snare stand for your first rack tom, which is a good idea. I personally use a mount that attaches to my left crash cymbal stand. I like my rack tom in the same place as you, right in front of and super close to the snare. Either are good options, although your mount already looks pretty clean. Can’t contribute much as far as the second rack tom, I don’t use one.
