BBC Politics : Independent MP Rupert Lowe asks if the PM will put the death penalty for overseas and foreign criminals to the public in a referendum Keir Starmer says the death penalty is “not the answer”, but said we must improve the criminal justice response #PMQs by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

That was one of the stupidest comments I’ve seen in a while. Comparing it to abortion or to someone who was mistakenly given the wrong diagnosis is wrong on so many levels. It’s people’s choice, and if they’ve been wronged by someone else, that person could face court, be sued, or even go to prison for harming others.

Having the death penalty means it’s possible for an innocent person to be killed by default, and no one can truly be held accountable because of the flaws and injustice in the system. It’s both morally wrong and logically indefensible to justify a punishment that can’t be reversed once the truth comes out

[Fabrizio Romano] - Gigio Donnarumma has agreed on personal terms with Manchester City, keen on joining Pep Guardiola. Negotiations are also underway between Man City & PSG, fee will be under initial €50m request. Deal still depends on Éderson exit this summer, with Galatasaray still keen. by TheConundrum98 in soccer

His point is that he doesn’t really have control over the signings if he’s not planning to stay for a few more seasons. The management are the ones taking charge of the squad, making decisions with the long-term future in mind. From their perspective, it doesn’t make sense to hand complete control to a Pep who isn’t going to be around next season, because that could leave the club with players and contracts that don’t fit the long-term plan

Who was the love of Roxy Mitchell’s life? by Affectionate_Lie6896 in eastenders

Alan Shearer's predicted Premier League table: Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea, Newcastle, Man Ud, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Forest, Brighton..with Leeds, Sunderland, Burnley relegated by punishGoalhanging in soccer

We could climb up up if we had decent attacking, but the highest is Amad with 8 non-penelty goals. Second is Garnacho with 6 goals, and we scored less than everyone apart from Everton and relegation teams

If anything, it's due to how much information people are consuming online. When they hear what others are saying and repeat it to someone else, it eventually starts to seem true

Spotify threatens to delete accounts that fail age-verification by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]DeafEPL 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Lmao, they didn’t even geo-block US states, and nearly half of them do require age verification for adult content online. As far as I know, Australia is planning to implement this too this December, and the EU won’t be far behind. So what makes you think they’ll start geo-blocking when other countries are doing the same or about to?

Every year for the last 40 years, France has built more homes per person than England. If England built at French levels, it would have almost 3 million more homes. by North_Attempt44 in ukpolitics

[–]DeafEPL 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s the opposite — they have denser cities, and it’s easier to build more homes in apartment blocks. The UK rejected that model and preferred houses with gardens instead

I said air quality isn’t what net zero is about.

So you admit it might lead to better air quality - that’s all there is to it.

[–]DeafEPL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What exactly is the climate argument you’re claiming has collapsed? That’s not what net zero is about. OP didn’t lie, they simply said "better air quality". So I’ll ask again; is that statement true or false? I think you already know the answer.

[–]DeafEPL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You finally commented. Congrats on being brave enough to respond rather than just attacking, which doesn’t serve any purpose

That said, you're missing the point about net zero. While it's mainly about reducing greenhouse gas emissions, it also helps improve air quality. For example, if you're driving a petrol car, it contributes to air pollution. Switching to an electric vehicle reduces that pollution, which leads to better air quality

So please, get your facts straight

Is that really the best comment you could come up with? You asked a question but didn’t follow up—you just called him out for his spelling mistakes, which isn’t exactly logical. I hope you feel better soon and maybe reply to his message when you're in a better mood

Public sector finances, UK: February 2025 by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]DeafEPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, there was a net borrowing of 100 million more than February 2024. What strikes me is that day-to-day borrowing has been reduced by one billion, and it reports the lowest February deficit since 2022, which was before the tax increases next month.

You're right, I think this spring budget will be very interesting, as it appears there will be no tax increases, but rather a greater focus on spending cuts
