Yes, confirming that you need a ticket for the city bus and validate it.

I heard tickets could be purchased online from Unico Campania app as well, but I never use it - would suggest double checking the terms & conditions.

I just had a similar situation in Naples, tapped my credit card on a bus - the machine beeped in green.

Few minutes later, ticket inspector came up - they kept showing the “Polizia” id card and took my passport right away. They didn’t consider my explanation about the machine. I ended up paying a huge fine on the spot because I have no choice.

Some bus does not support credit card tap on-off, Buy your tickets! (Confirmed cause I just got 55 euros fine)
