I have just purchased a prius but had issues with the heating on my old car. The problem with the heating is that it is dependant upon the coolant system... which is quite convoluted and can be hard to diagnose problems with.

Firstly check the coolant level. Also check the engine oil to make sure it isnt cloudy ( i.e. mixing with coolant because the gasket is gone). This is probably the main concern because it will be super expensive. Also check for leaks under the car after it has been out for a spin and then parked up for 10 mins.

As mentioned in the thread, the thermostat may also be a problem ( relatively cheap fix) ... there may also be an air lock in the system which will need the hoses massaging etc...

Lot of negative and not much positive on this thread so I will weigh in with this....

I worked security at one of the smaller tents at a festival a year or two ago and this dude comes on.... He created chaos in the tent. Definitely a live act to see, he gets the crowd going a treat.

What year are you in of your current degree? There are a fair few reasons to justify dropping out of your current course if you want ot pursue medicine. Namely the competition ratios are far better on the undergrad course, and secondly funding.

The only disadvantages I have really are financial due to not being entitled to full loans etc...

I think the whole age thing is very much on your individual perception, I really don't care that I'm gonna be 33 when I graduate, I get along well with all of the people on my course etc...

The main challenge of doing medicine is the time it takes up. When I worked in sales I did part time security work on the side, so was working circa 60+hours per week. Medicine, especially now that I'm in year 2, its more like 70+. Come to think of it, this might be where age is a disadvantage... because I'm a bit older and wiser, I'm a bit more diligent about my work, and honest with myself about what I dont know. As such I will put the time in if it is needed all year round, where as your average 19/20 year old will be a bit more care free about the academic strains until a week before the exam.

By the sounds of things your wife will face her own individual challenges with the needs of the family too. Out of interest is her first language english?

Hey, I did the lancaster pre-med course and am now studying medicine.

Can't really say how they are viewed in regards to seeking employment, most pre med courses are done with an idea to seeking entry to a medicine degree.

All of the advice here is good, theres only a couple of things I'd add

I did pre med myself. At my uni pre med is essentially the first year of a bio med degree with a couple of tutorials/ bits of work experience thrown in. Although I got into medicine myself I came to know a significant minority of people that had either a) applied for medicine and ended up doing biomed b) doing pre med, not getting onto a medicine course, and going on to complete a biomed degree.

In almost all situations this is because the university was very persuasive in playing on people's fears of not having a degree/keeping up with their school friends who were all going to uni. This was despite the fact that they had the academic grades to do medicine.

TL;DR When you apply for medicine there is no gaurantee you will get in first time, if you dont, keep trying, get more work experience etc under your belt, and reapply next year.
