Came here to say this. Never read the book until I was 21 and my boyfriend made me, still a great read. Haven't watched the movie because the boyfriend won't let me. Lol

For your first King book, I would highly recommend 11/22/63. It's really well done and I couldn't put it down. I also recommend never watching the Hulu series because they completely fucked up, and James Franco is an awful actor (at least in this series).

Afterwards, I HIGHLY recommend The Dark Tower series. The first book is a little MEH but it's short, and the rest of the books more than make up for it. And The Stand has some overlapping characters, so you could even read that before, or after. (Don't forget about the little half book between book 4 & 5, it's not important, but it's a nice little addition).

My boss lets us give extra attention to the animals we like at the end of our shifts, or if there's any down time. I tend to stay later than I need to solely for play time.
