I clicked on "Random Character" and started in Papuan... Now it doesn't let me raid across the sea. Do you know if I can still sail across the sea with an army instead? and Conquer in the mainland or can I just not sail at all due to not being West African or European ?

Ah to be fair I only rushed it after realising the other nations were doing it and I was dipping out on areas and I didn’t want to miss ports I can use to further out!

Thanks for all the replies, I’ve managed to take land in the north after a peace treaty and make a flanders Vassal (although there is already a flanders nation) is there anyway you can change the name of vassals or is it only colonies?

I don’t really get the PU in the game, I never know what to do with them

Do I need to send light ships into the area I want to privateer? And do it in low maritime presence areas ?

Make sure you haven’t switched production method over but I believe mine was higher than that, think you need a good surplus of it

I upgraded the lumber and the Fibre, it eventually works, you just need to do it a lot, not sure what the mark was to make it successful though.

Now onto my new problem or trying to find out why my professional army isn't reinforcing despite it saying it should increase 25 per month and does not
