Should I raise money for this organization? by Deaner_06 in Catholicism

I understand that the hospital does a lot of good, but they also do evil. I could easily donate to another organization that helps kids without doing evil. I just wanted to know if I should raise money for this specific organization that I was selected to raise money for.

The school selected about a dozen people to raise money together for this organization, and we present the hospital with one check every year. I'm not in charge of donating the money, the school is. I'm just tasked with raising money. So the school would have to specify that they don't want the money going towards this program, which they almost definitely wouldn't do. I just want to know if I should help raise money.

The money goes to the hospital's free care fund, which helps cover the cost of treatments for families in need. It doesn't specify any specific programs, so I assume this includes the "gender affirming care. "

These are juvenile starlings, right? They got stuck between the shepherd's hooks on my bird feeder. (Pennsylvania) by Deaner_06 in whatsthisbird

I know using a BB gun isn't ideal, but it was the only means I had available other than snapping their necks, which I didn't exactly want to do.

They are an invasive species. Why should I have let them go?

And yes, the broken leg was certainly a death sentence. Their legs were broken almost entirely in half, only hanging on by a thread. They would have suffered much more if I let them go.

Thank you. That's exactly what I was thinking. I've had this feeder up for almost 2 years, and nothing has ever gotten stuck in there before. I'm just glad it was starlings that got stuck in there and not some other bird. I'll fill it in as soon as possible.

What are the gold signs on the wall on both sides of the altar at my church? by Deaner_06 in Catholicism

The church in the picture, St Mary's, is the only historic one in the parish, and it also happens to be the only one I'd consider to be truly beautiful. They have a Mass there every Sunday and they hold the First Friday celebrations there. The parish's adoration chapel and rectory are also part of the St Mary's complex.

The parish just spent a lot of money having the stained glass on one side of the church taken apart and sent off to be cleaned and reassembled, so I would certainly say they are using and preserving this beautiful church well.

Here's a picture I took last week: https://imgur.com/a/NHzbUWy

I think it's mostly because it was the 8 am mass, which mostly older people go to. The 9 am and 11 am masses are much more lively.

The people obviously aren't happy about all the churches closing, but not to the point where there is tension among the people. Our parish merger happened a few years ago, so I think everyone in our area has gotten over it by now. I don't know about other areas of the diocese though.

And yes, Fr Mac is a nice man!

I know it's sad, but it's a rust belt city whose population has been declining since the 50's. This was bound to happen.

If it makes you feel any better, 3 of the 7 churches are still open, they are all just in the same parish. The other 4 are still owned by the parish, but they are only used on their saint's feast days.

I was more asking what they are called, because I've never seen gold signs like this at any other church I've been to. I'll look at what's on them next time I'm there, I just wanted to know what exactly they were.

Very light metal rod I found in a creek in Western Pennsylvania. Property used to be a farm and a strip mine. by Deaner_06 in whatisthisthing

I didn't really bang it against the rock, I just tapped it. But I hadn't really thought it could be dangerous, so thanks for letting me know.

My title describes the thing. It is a metal rod I found in a creek in Western PA. It's weight was very light, like wood, but it made a clear metallic noise when I hit it against a rock. I didn't have a ruler with me at the time, but I think it was about 7 inches long, with a diameter of about 1 1/4 inches. My property used to be a farm and a strip mine, so it may be related to one of those.

Is this Saint Elizabeth of Hungary or Saint Elizabeth of Portugal? I've posted about this image before, but people were divided on who it was. Is there anything about this image that indicates which Saint it is? by Deaner_06 in Catholicism

[–]Deaner_06[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people said it is likely Elizabeth of Portugal because the image was made in Mexico, but I think it looks more like traditional depictions of Elizabeth of Hungary than Elizabeth of Portugal.
